The last 2 times I changed the filters the 20 micron filter was mostly clean but the 5 micron filter was clogged with sediment. I only got a few weeks of service from the filters this time instead of the few months I normally get because the water pressure was too low because of the clogged 5 micron.
The 20 micron filter is in an Omnifilter model OB1 Series A housing. It doesn't have a bypass feature. I double checked all the valves were properly open etc. The 5 micron filter is in a clear housing and I can see the filter is already getting gross after just a few minutes, normally when I change it, it looks pretty new even after a few months.

You have a bunch of stuff that is smaller than 20 microns !

Perhaps you lost an O-ring during the filter change.

You could do a test to determine if you actually have a bypass somehow or if Obie is actually correct. Put your old filters back in place (so you don't soil new ones) and put a little sand into the system and see if it gets past the 10 micron filter. If it does, you have a problem. If not, try something smaller if you can.

I concur with Obie. you seem to have a significant source of 5-20 micron particulate.

The sediment on the 5 micron filter is measured in inches not in microns. So we know things are getting past the 20 micron filter.

I guess you've checked the intake position in the tank to assure that it hasn't dropped into a sediment layer? Does the tank need a cleaning? Not sure why the sediment would suddenly appear after a filter change if it's a tank issue though. The coarse filter may be rupturing for some reason I suppose.

Our intake in the tank is at the bottom so having a lot of sediment on the 20 micron filter is normal. Not having it (like now) is what's changed.

You now have a ton of fine sediment.
Change the intake .
