Here's the dealio: It couldn't hurt at all to go down there and give any of these kids talked about, some healthy fruits and veggies. It may make you feel better. Anywhere anytime. However... many people seem to be uneducated in what exactly constitutes a "healthy snack" Frito chips, soda, juice ( almost as bad as soda) cookies, crackers... all that refined carbohydrate stuff just utter crap. That's a lot of what these kids are getting as snacks. Obesity, heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease= all diet related diseases that Hawaii has more than it's share of.
However, unfortunately many of these children weren't raised to appreciate the taste of healthy fruits and veggies because they are used to the other junkfood snacks. They will eat the sweeter fruits like good apples bananas and grapes so those are probably the best bet.
I don't mind a food drive at all and don't want to attack anyone's benign project. I was just trying to prove earlier that it becomes dramatized when we think these kids are "starving"
AirportP: I don't need to back up my 90% speculation stats because it's an opinion and I'm not in court with documents. However it's a realistic opinion. I do have family members and several people close to me that work for DOE directly with these kids and I've been there too.

Some would say that actively discouraging people from feeding hungry kids is... deplorable.[:p]

care not for the future consequences.

Yes; there's plenty of time to tax these children later in life for the bad choices they're being given today.

The kids are happy to eat any of these healthy treats.
