Sorry, EW, my comment was not about your remarks per se, just making a current events joke. No offense intended. (Google "Deplorables" if you've managed to avoid that subject matter.)

Hmm all good. No offense taken, as this is a forum and all spectrums of opinions should be welcome. However, prior to being notified by RJ, that I didn't know all forms of the word "intimate", I thought of myself as somewhat of a wordy type. Wordy enough to know the definition of deplorable.
I hope the keiki get some nice healthy snacks Lee. Aloha

... Just as I thought! [8D]

Chas I don't know if you live here or not or are aware that the Big Isle was, if not still is, the most welfare generous state in the USA. It's impossible to go hungry here unless you are on drugs or insanely irresponsible. Then the moral dilemma comes in....do I enable the parents and mask or gloss over a situation that should be investigated or do I say no this is wrong?

I don't know but as a world traveler I can tell you our poverty is affluence compared to the poverty of developing nations. In other words no comparison. If a child is not being fed, it's just a matter of time until Child Protective Services swoops down and rescues the child. Be grateful that your tax dollars are being used in such a effective way. God bless America because this type of effective social welfare is very rare.

As I've stated many times, no I don't live there (wait for it... then why are you on this forum?)

I'm well aware of the welfare system and it's deficiencies but I guess I don't understand the logic of, "Sorry kids, I have to teach your parents a lesson".

And I’m pretty sure these kids won’t understand, “Well you may think YOU have it bad, but compared to kids in other countries…..” reminds me of my parents telling me to eat all my dinner because kids were starving in China.

Maybe we could instead say "free food for kids" then when the kids get there, give them a class on how to apply for assistance or turn in their parents for neglecting them?

My point is, no matter how "wrong" it is for the way someone wants to help a bad situation, I don't see this effort being made by the Pahoa Boys and Girls Club or Lee's request for support as being a bad thing.

I'm also amazed at how people would rather spend their time criticizing other's efforts then actively coming up with and executing what they think is a better solution.

By the way, where are all of you on Rob’s Santa’s Workshop topic? Surely that has to be bad for them as well right?

Another person yet to have children posting what they feel is "right" for them.

ETA. above reply based on " or turn in their parents for neglecting them?"

I hope you not serious Chas.

ElysianWort, I think you're missing out. If you feed them fatty junk food the meat gets nice and marbled with fat. Like veal, or those force-fed geese.

I'm sure you know the definition of deplorable. Rob (rightly) forbids discussion of presidential politics in this forum, so I can't explain the joke further. That's why I suggested Googling "deplorabes". Again, no offense, and a half-basket[Wink] of best wishes for you and yours.

Exactly. I think we can all agree that too much public assistance is counterproductive (people not motivated to try harder) and too little public assistance is also counterproductive (starving people rioting and/or mugging strangers for their spare change.) Where we disagree is what the proper amount is.
Arguing against a welfare state is reasonable. Arguing against snacks for hungry kids at the Boys and Girls Club makes you look like the villain in a Charles Dickens novel.

lol! and you want the meat marbled why randomq? Lodestone ahhh....punny. Deplorable, deplorables. You started without the s then added it in the follow up post. Lol whatever. Bring them chocolate and starbursts. That's what they really want. Get them buzzing and bouncing off the walls then send them home to mom and dad. And airportp has the power to establish if one has offspring just based on the content of their post. Laughable.

Report the parents for not feeding their children when the parents can get more food stamps than they can possibly use. OR feed the kids and feel good about yourselves on a very superficial level. The choice is yours.
