Kenoi's personal finances will be under spotlight

Wow, That video TomK posted of our Mayor's party speech that was being held for Kauai's Mayor says too much. I would be very surprised if that video is still available to see by next week. jmo

Should this video of the Mayor at a party have been taken or posted in the first place? Should this kind of video taking be off limits in Hawaii politics? I ask because Mr Peleka also took some exception to a video that was taken of him recently.

That FB clip could not have come out at a worst time. Just when the Attorney General is proving "excessive amounts of Alcohol" in the pcard case. This candid clip does not help much.

this is just another battle in the on-going war between the Tribune Herald...which includes the West Hawaii Today and The Kenoi administration. With that being said, the Star Advertiser is not a big fan of Billy either. They always manage to use the worst pictures of Billy to accompany their articles. The Trib and Kenoi been at war for the last 8 years. At this point of the fight, it appears John Burnnett and his Tribune Herald are going for the knock out blow.

What? Why? Politicians need the most accountability! They are also public figures, and should expect it.

All I will say is what I wrote before:

"At some point, you'd think he'd realize he's an ambassador for and representative of the Big Island. "

It's very clear he represented himself as our mayor in the video. Although it's horribly embarrassing for the island, the video won't disappear I'm afraid. Our mayor shouldn't be making speeches while inebriated.

Really? So the first requirement for an aspiring politician is that they have to give up any right to privacy and personal space (and thought)? And you wonder why more competent capable people aren't willing to serve than our current crop of dirtbags for whom Political Correctness is their guiding light. Good luck with that.

geochem - I certainly agree that politicians, or any public figure, should be left alone when they are in a private setting, such as their home or their friends' homes. I've no problem with them partying and becoming disgustingly drunk if that's what they do in private (I'll draw the line at the president!).

I thought Kenoi was in a private party at first, but it turns out that's not the case, and given that, he should not have given that drunken speech. Or, if he chose to do so, should have managed to control himself. A few simple words, even if slurred, would not have made the news.

What he did is embarrass the voters and residents of the Big island. He disgraced himself and he disgraced the office of the mayor.

Sorry. You might disagree, no problem if you do, but as you can see, I feel strongly about this!

Edited for typos.

You would think that once one enters the political arena a sense of professionalism would enter ones mind as they have now become ambassadors of the people they represent. They also have to be ever present in their mindset they are now in a "fishbowl", where press can see, and take opportunities to drag you down. His actions are embarrassing to the people he represents due to the shallow mindset of " birds of a feather..." In that if he is the most professional choice of the people, how does the rest of the community act?

That is the state of American politics and Puna in particular. Not only are candidates fair game for all manner of salacious accusations, but their family members are also slandered by anonymous votaries of various cynical persuasions.

So we end up with this:
“There go my people, I must find out where they are going so I can lead them.”
