SCUBA diving in Puna
#11
It's cool that there is interest here in diving off of the Puna coast. I'm getting psyched. If anyone wants to see a few underwater photos I took click here: http://nisbet.net/photos.html#underwater

A couple people have mentioned that they may be interested in purchasing used gear. I will do some hunting around and see what I can come up with. I will keep this thread informed if I come up with any options to that end.

I know that there is a Kona side diving club and that they pick a new spot to dive on the coast every so often (say once or twice a month or so). We should do the same here. It is a great way for everyone to learn about new dive locations, to meet potential dive buddies and to have fun in this beautiful place that God has made!

Having the ability to fill our own tanks is way cool. I would be willing to contribute time, labor and my limited supply of tools to such an endeavor. pslamont please keep us here informed of any development to that end.

All the best,
Andrew

Pam, I am also intersested in joining the east club. I had a dive shop speciallizing in kids (mostly aquatic ed & snorkeling, but SCUBA for the older kids) back in the Chicago area. I still have many of my gear supplier contacts, and some will sell through clubs (some have restrictions on life support equipment)
Most of my diving here has been school and clean up related. I would love some that didn't involve tests or picking up recreational debris!
Aloha, Carey

Ain't nothing like a day or better yet night of looking at the pretty fisheys. If heaven is any better of a paradise than living in Hawai'i I don't know if I will be able to stand it!!!!!Smile))))pj..p.s. Pam, do you want one of my strawberry plants or not?

That works for me. We could meet at Blackrock or we could meet by the seaside somewhere and do a dive and also bring food to share. Either way - I'm up for it. Let's say Saturday.

OK all who are interested here it is:

Saturday April 15 let’s do a 2-tank dive at the bay that is beside Champaign Pond. Drive in past the lighthouse and park by the pond. (I am open to a different location and since I don't know where the dive spots are in Puna anyone can feel free to chime in but lets get it nailed down soon so whoever wants to come can plan ahead).

11:00 am till whenever.

Bring your own equipment obviously.

During the rest interval between dives we can eat some lunch and we can discuss plans for the dive club. Here are a few thoughts for discussion:

1. Name for club.
2. Choose a domain name and ideas for a website for getting news out etc.
3. I'd love to hear about potential dive sites in the area.
4. Purpose of club (besides diving).
5. Whatever else you can think of.

Make it known on this thread if you are interested and if you intend to come. Do we want to each bring some food to share with the group or just bring our own stuff?

If you are new at diving and are interested please come along and share with us as well. This will be a great opportunity to meet people and get a chance to hook up with a dive buddy.

Snorkelers who are interested in learning to dive some time in their future are welcome. Bring your questions and fire away at all of us fishes. Snorkelers can snorkel as well if they want and still join in on the lunch and discussions and fun.

Hope I'm not being presumptuous here but like Seeb says let's get on it.

See you in the water!!

Andrew

I need to buy a new tank mine got old.
Any suggestions?
I was thinking about waiting till' I got out and mail order one.
Any shops on the dark side?
Don't need to travel over to Kona just to buy a tank.
Thanks Kahunascott
