"Kenoi then reiterated his previous position that a “sacred science”, meaning astronomy, should occur in a “sacred place”, on Mauna Kea."
He may be a crook but at least he's not an anti-science luddite.

I don't know the exact numbers for Hawaii county, but government pensions are usually distributed based on a matrix of age and years of service where it takes a few years to be vested, then you have meet both a minimum age and years of service to begin to draw the pension, size of the pension is based on years of service and last few years' salary. It will be big but he is pretty young to be able to draw the pension, minimum age is usually around 62 or 65, the sooner you draw the less you get paid.

"In court our Mayor's attorney's should ask the jury to focus on facts and the mayor's many positive accomplishments during his two terms as Hawaii County Mayor. A few accomplishments being, helping to bring our Island community out of a great recession, build several new parks, upgrade the counties only golf course, help take back Mauna Kea from hostile foreigner's, raise funds for Hawaii keiki to play football in Florida and guided us through several natural disasters. "
You got to be kidding, right? " hostile foreigners? Getting us out of recession? I like the one mentioning " guidance" through several natural disasters!!!!! Like not disturbing the lava from its path to consume people's homes!!! Spending bazukas of cash building a road that has been covered with lava already, and not building a proper and permanent secondary emergency road exit for all those living in one of the fastest growing areas: Puna. Like giving away high position jobs to "friends" that are utterly unqualified to hold those positions.Like allowing the infernal growth of helicopter tours that greatly disturb our livelyhoods. Like not maintaining and creating a decent and affordable public transit system. And, shall we mention our dismal Police Dept, a nest of posers whose greatest accomplishments are to find good hiding places to text and eat donuts, all under the direction of another of Kenoi's buddies. Like doing absolutely nothing to bring or even retain decent medical services in the island! Shall we talk about youth services ? No because they are almost non existent in an island plagued by meth. Yes, let's talk about parks, highly emotional and visible ribbon cutting ceremonies, where he could flash that distinctive "charming" smile. Denial is REALLY, not a river in Egypt!!

How about they just focus on the facts and ignore all the hand waving and distractions?

If our Mayor was really that broke then why was he taking groups to high end nightclubs for drinks and food on other Islands?
If our Mayor did indeed pay back the money before the end of the P-Card cycle period then why is this a big deal again?

Getting us out of recession?
Excellent point -- the right yardstick for "mayoral effectiveness" should be something like: increase in services (that the people actually want) vs the increase in size of budget.
Do we really "need" more parks, or would some infrastructure be a better investment?
Speaking of parks: I see zero mention of the Pahoa Park, either for overtime or ribbon-cutting...

It may come as no surprise that lavalava is now taking a Punaweb vacation.

"Some infrastructure"? ....what about just plain and simple " infrastructure"; we don't have any! I effectivilly pay taxes to a County that offers 0 services, on top they fleece me with permits fees and decide what I can build or not build in my own property.
BIG 0 SERVICES, how about that? anyone noticed or it is just me? And to make it even more insulting I have to pay to build and maintain our own roads, what about that baby? I think it's time to be less chilled if you ask me!
In my personal view, why on earth do we have to support this fat cat bureaucracy? To keep the Hilo, Waimea, Kona folks nice and cozy? What about Puna? the largest growing demographics in the island; where btw our Partier in Chief came from?
Someone pointed out that the parks were Kenoi's long time solution to our homeless population, funny.... Not!
