Netiquette 101
#1
Appropriate etiquette on the internet has been a slowly evolving thing, but I am sure all of us have learned a few things, maybe even learned some of them the hard way. Feel free to post your suggestions for Netiquette 101 here, I'll start off with my 2 pet peeves:

Using all caps is the same as shouting. Luckily not many people do this here.

Do not use the word "today" in the title of a post unless you are willing to go back and change it to a date the next day. Otherwise, the tsunami, traffic stopping car wreck, or special offer live on forever as present events, unnecessarily scaring or alerting people to an event that is long passed.

Try too look at the colorful or humorous side of opinions, criticism and statements that one might not agree with before getting your panties bunched up in a knot and firing back in aggression. So that's my, uh, "netiquette" suggestion post.

This goes for everything, on the net or not - attack the position, not the person.

Dont 'type' a response to someone that you would be too afraid or unwilling to say to their face.

Great thread, shockwave rider, and good suggestions. Mahalo so much.

Basic manners (like alaskyn66 stated very well), in both life, and the internet would be really, really appreciated. Even in disagreement, there should be some decorum, and respect of other's opinion. The cutting comments are so counterproductive, especially when a "forum name" is used (more respect to those here on PW, and elsewhere, who use their own name; obviously, it can get dangerous.).

Personal attacks are why people don't post more, especially of late. The nature of human beings is to lash out when it becomes conflicting, however, to personally attack people is hewa. Unless they are threatening your life, and your ohana, it's not warranted, especially in a forum like PW, or any other.

OK, pau, and mahalo again, shockwave rider, for bringing this subject to the forefront. Have a lovely evening, all. Warm aloha to our PW ohana, and to Mr. Tucker for providing us this forum, and moreso, for his patience.

JMO.

P.S. Manners: This is really good...lol!:

Rest well, all.

If you need to edit your post after people have responded to it, please mention in your edited post what you have changed.

Don't make wild and made-up claims and get upset if people call you out on them. It is perfectly acceptable for people to ask for evidence or point out when someone has made something up.
