PGV had a plant failure today and a release.

Helco was promising the different telescopes years ago that their operations will be able to run glitch-free. Guess I assumed that today's telescopes needed mass amounts of electricity to operate, including the TMT's. Since this article will shed light to how Helco has made previous promises to the existing telescopes. My guess, is that the TMT has been promised electricity priority by now TomK. jmo

Can enough back-up electricity be stored to operate the lasers of the TMT if the power goes out?

I asked for evidence to back up your claim and you provided evidence to support what I wrote. Thanks.

But how about this? Where is your evidence?

"The TMT alone if built and operational will need and use roughly 5-10 million worth of electricity a year"

Then:

"My guess, is that the TMT has been promised electricity priority by now TomK"

So you're just guessing?

"then my back yard will have an increase of geothermal operations for generations to come"
Not if you move, like any sensible person would do if it was a tenth as bad as you describe it.

The TMT alone if built and operational will need and use roughly 5-10 million worth of electricity a year, while also demanding electricity priority over the rest of the island.

I'll bet the Hilo Medical Center gets a similar deal. Should we shut them down too? I certainly wouldn't want to be left in the dark just so some car crash victim can have emergency surgery.

That said: if PGV is so awful, move away from there. Especially when County has graciously offered to redirect public royalty revenue directly into your little bailout. (I would rather see that money spent on just about anything else.)

For that matter, if HELCO is so evil, go off-grid, thereby denying revenue to both HELCO and PGV while also being able to guarantee that your power doesn't go out.

I realize it's not fashionable to take personal responsibility for solving your own problems.

Kalakoa, A hospital may have been a good thing to have built in the Pahoa area before the Geothermal power plant.

TomK, I understand that scientists like yourself may not want to guess on much of anything. Would you have some proof or evidence of the amount of electricity the TMT will be needing or using? Surly someone you know from the billion dollar TMT project would have had to estimate the needed electricity use to operate it, yes? Please debunk either of my claims made TomK, also, answering a few of my questions in return once in a while would be kind.

How, or why, does the TMT, helco, and PGV support eachother?

The PGV supports the TMT in hopes to sell more of their generated power to Helco.
The TMT supports PGV in Hawaii because they will be needing mass amounts of electricity for their operations, which PGV has the capabilities to produce.
Helco is the "go space" on the monopoly board, the special-teams playa, or middle-man if you will.

Who really loses the greater opportunities if the TMT moves off to the Canary Islands(my guess) in the next 6 months? Answer: The Sheep and Snakes.
Sad how much attention goes out over the "1" million a year keiki fund and very little attention is made about the multi-million dollar a year Helco fund, or the Universities many million dollar contracts. jmo

Please debunk either of my claims made TomK

gypsy,
You can't:
1) make an exaggerated claim
2) then be asked to substantiate it
3) then reply you have no proof
4) then request the person who asked you for proof should provide evidence that shows it is NOT what you say it is.

I am trying to enjoy a mellow Puna mind-body alliance this beautiful Hawaiian morning, and now my 4th chakra & chi energy are completely out of alignment.

HOTPE, LOL. Someone once claimed the world was flat and that made others prove other wise. Only "CAN" in Hawaii say's our Mayor. The problems with your mind-body alliance and Chakra & Chi energy flow this morning may have been caused by these things, scientists, electricity, age, and your habits of laziness. jmG

your habits of laziness

What a harsh vibe man. It's completely cracked open an already tenuous connection between the physical plane and my train of consciousness.

Yes, I only work 7 days a week right now, so I'm waiting for completion of the TMT and possible discovery of an exoplanet with 8 days a work week. Then I won't be such a slouch.

I'm quite certain it wasn't scientists, electricity, age, or laziness messing with my chakra chi this morning, any other guesses?

Left unchecked, more bullying and making fun of Gypsy by Tom and Paul and the gang for a couple pages.

Pathetic that a person cannot have an opinion here without being attacked.

Thank you Rob for allowing me to point this out.
I'll stop it now.

more bullying

airportparking,
If someone states an opinion as fact, and their comment is either incorrect or based on an occurrence that they've misunderstood, would you suggest:

1) the comment is allowed to stand as is
2) the comment is corrected

If your suggestion is #2, that an incorrect comment should be amended, please give us an example for how you believe this should best be accomplished.
