PGV had a plant failure today and a release.
The county and state is trying to take our voice and rights away

They also offered to buy your home. What did you decide?

The nearby living residents to the power plant have been forced to live with the many geothermal experiments over the years

I didn't realize there were no other homes or buildable lots available anywhere on the island -- must have missed the memo.

It's like when you go into Ken's House of Pancakes.
If you order the Sumo, you have to eat it.

gypsy - do you understand where the money is coming from that allows the county to make an offer to buy your home?

It isn't free money from the giant PGV (Ormat) corporation.

The money comes directly from the users of electricity - including YOU. Your electric rate is higher due to the money PGV has to pay into the fund. Your electric rate is also higher because of the "royalty" PGV has to pay for using the steam, even though they put it back into the ground to be used again. This includes annual payments to DHHL. You also pay a higher rate because PGV has to pay a gross receipts tax, AKA GET, on the amount of sales. They also have to pay Hawaii state income tax on the amount of eventual profit they make. ALL of this goes into the price of what you pay for electricity. There are too many fingers stealing from the pie!

Problem not limited to electricity, either. Think "real estate".

Entire huge pieces of our economy are just "fingers in the pie" -- as in: we don't have a real economy to begin with!

None of this has anything to do with making PGV be a better neighbor who maintains their equipment better. Maybe they could invest in safety before something happens instead of always after the fact. Then they might not be on the hook for this relocation fund!!

gypsy - you have been complaining about being very afraid of PGV for right at 3 years now. If you truly believe you are in danger, why have you not moved?

why have you not moved?

There has got to be a reason why people continue to complain about the deadly, explosive dangers of PGV, but then remain in their homes around the facility, only to venture as far as Hilo County Council meetings on occasion:

1) Is Leilani / Pohoiki in fact a veritable Garden of Eden, and in an attempt to keep the area from becoming overcrowded residents generate continuous warnings about "rotten egg smell" and "explosions?"

2) Do they all grow enormous amounts of weed, and their ceaseless drumbeat of danger is an attempt keep crop snatchers away?

3) Are they in fact correct about the harmful fumes, which have over time rendered their mental capacity unable to determine a move is in their best interest, and physically they are incapable of packing boxes, leaving them in a nonfunctional, near catatonic state? Is the area which by now most of us are too frightened to visit or drive through, now populated by a large number of zombie-like creatures shuffling aimlessly, night and day through ROD infested forests?

4) Perhaps they enjoy the drama and the attention: lights! camera! action!

5) Just another Hawaiian Shakedown because PGV obviously has so much money.
