PGV had a plant failure today and a release.

Low oxygen levels caused the fish die off.

We never should have grandfathered in cesspools so close to the water. Everyone within a mile of the shoreline should be required to have a septic system, period. No big mystery though Mr.69, just good old human waste!

Obie, thanks for the opinion piece. Who is Aaron the links author and why does his guess count as proof of anything? Those cesspools have been there in Kapoho for decades without causing fish and Coral kills, there use to be more of them too. So why do the fewer used cesspools today receive the blame?

Another "Guess" could be that large storm surges and rain run offs in the area are picking up larger amounts of human used poisons and fertilizers from the Vacation rentals and farm lots? Not sure if poisons like bleach and fire ant poison should be allowed so close to a sensitive ocean environment.
There has also been a very large increase of sunblock and direct tourist urine added in and around those Kapoho tide pools in the past decade. jmo.

PGV was accused of Clean energy fraud and has decided to settle with the feds.

Where does the fraud settled money go or end up? If the paid back fraud money goes towards Law enforcement then who's, Puna's maybe?

Was this fraud issue regarding "HELCO's" 8 MW Geothermal plant that was attached to the current PGV plant?

Not relevant. PGV already passed the costs along to HELCO customers.

From the article link:
“The False Claims Act is an effective civil tool to ferret out fraud in federal taxpayer-funded programs,” said U.S. Attorney Bogden.

Wouldn't it be great if the False Claims Act was enforced for everybody? That is, if someone claimed they heard, or detected a PGV steam release and were made violently ill, but it was determined there was no release and no emissions were measured, that person or group would be prosecuted and fined millions of dollars?
Or how about if someone protested against a large project because they claimed it would threaten endangered ecosystems, but during their protest they themselves introduced dangerous non-native species to the environment?

Perhaps it would be a better world if everyone could be prosecuted by the False Claims Act.

Has anything new developed regarding the IDG or OHA geothermal power plant that was suppose to happen by now down in Pohoiki?

Plenty of OHA frustration seen or felt throughout the many comments following this article.
