Merrie Monarch Festival
#1
Okay...so I LOVE Merrie Monarch and am all the way over here in Arizona. If ANYONE knows how I could get a copy (either VCR or DVD) I would be so grateful. I had a friend who taped 2 days of it last year and I enjoy it so much. I will pay for the tape or DVD and any postage! I wish I could get it on OUR tellie...

Mahalo Nui Loa!

I have seen DVD's at Barns and Noble in Hilo. I don't thing all B&N's would have them though as few outside Hawaii would have a clue of what it's about. On the other hand B&N in Las Vegas may have them do to the large number of Hawaiians living there.

Carrie, The KITV (ABC channel) live coverage (and the web coverage)begins at 6:00pm HST (we don't have daylight savings, so west coast = 9:00pm., MDT = 10:00pm, CDT = 11:00 pm, EDT = 12:00pm. The mad dash for tickets is because there are few to be had, with fewer than 3,000 tickets sold to the public.

This is one TV event where the time difference between Hilo and Philadelphia really matters. The festival telecasts will begin at Midnight, our time, and last until 5:00 AM.

So where were you all last Sunday for the free hula shows at the Afook stadium? That wasn't packed at all and Uncle George and Auntie Dotty were there, some great dancers were there and there were still some empty seats. There were forty incredibly cute hula dancers who did the "cock-eyed mayor of Kauanakakai" wearing papale niu from Wiohinu. Most of them were well under three feet tall.

There is also the free hula show at the Edith Kanakaole stadium this Wednesday night. Anyone going?
