TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo
India is in the midst of an economic crisis. Might the solution be to send the TMT to their country?

Better solution: just send the protectors. Their benefit money will go much further there.

India is irrelevant. The decision has already been made that if the TMT is not built on Mauna Kea it will end up in La Palma.

Don't be so sure -- La Palma must be sacred to someone, too.

TomK, India is irrelevant really? I do agree with TomK that This TMT project will not be moving to India.

It has become somewhat confusing or cloudy with so many different governments or partners having such large million dollar slices of the TMT pie. This article was obviously written by an author who was just as confused or misinformed as most of us.

Thank you for the link gypsy. Although the article suggested the TMT would move to India (written in May 2016, and perhaps more wishful thinking than investigative journalism), it made several excellent points:

it's a loss for Hawaii and a gem for India.

The report also mentions that Hawaii's rejection of the project is a 'loss' of the state. Building of TMT will open several doors for many local people, aside from the development of the country.

TMT is said to be the largest optical and infrared telescope in northern hemisphere, which will reinforce several huge discoveries vital for future generations.

Tell us gypsy69, why are you opposed to TMT?
A short reply is required.
No BS.

Maybe to acolytes of Francisco Franco.
That's where the Spanish Civil War was launched from in 1936.

From the TMT site itself:

"After careful deliberation, the Board of Governors has identified Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (ORM) on La Palma in the Canary Islands, Spain as the primary alternative to Hawaii."

In addition:

"It has become somewhat confusing or cloudy with so many different governments or partners having such large million dollar slices of the TMT pie."

The TMT partners are contributing their money to the project, they are not making money from it.
