Seems to me you're starting with a wish ("PGV causes ROD") and then trying to find facts to support this.
That is not how logical thought works.

resident grouches of all things you don't agree with
You're holding it wrong and/or pointing it in the wrong direction.

Not allowed to have an opinion without getting attacked here.
... Call me names and try to be witty .. OK pog, as you requested, just the facts. 1) Many people state an opinion on Punaweb without getting attacked. 2) Only a few people state opinions here with the kind of response you refer to. 3) Why? Possible reasons: 1) People who state an opinion repeatedly, without substantiation, are the ones most likely to elicit a fervent response. For instance, a statement like "I don't like Puna Geothermal" or "I think Puna Geothermal stinks!" most likely would receive replies that simply agree or disagree with the post. If however a post is made starting with "I don't like PGV" then leaps to "PGV is the cause of all evil in lower Puna including but not limited to; strange gas emissions undetected by anyone else, banks of gaseous fog clouds disseminating toxic chemicals, well drilling when there is no well drilling, ROD, the kitchen sink, etc, those statements are no longer an opinion, but a carefully woven conspiratorial narrative with a specific purpose in mind. So why might this be a problem if non-opinions are disguised as opinions and continue without comment? 1) When something, anything, is repeated often enough, some people start to believe it. That is a fact, confirmed in repeated psychological studies. 2) Fake news stories flooded social media, email inboxes, and twitter this past election cycle. Look what it got us. I wish more people would have responded to, and called out unconfirmed, unverifiable, mystery allegations made from single sources, without any sound evidence, or often, no evidence whatsoever. I asked in an earlier post, when this type of situation develops, who is the good guy, who is the bully? I believe an argument can be made either way. If I met some of the people who fabricate these alternate realities in person, I think I would like most of them. They're creative, often make my day more interesting, and are obviously not without support from friends, family, and other members of Punaweb. I'm certain they exhibit many positive qualities in their daily interactions around East Hawaii, qualities which in the bigger picture most likely would overshadow the few areas of discussion where we might disagree. edited to add: "Not ignoring what is good, I am quick to perceive a horror, and could still be social with it - would they let me - since it is but well to be on friendly terms with all the inmates of the place one lodges in." Moby Dick - Herman Melville
"I'm at that stage in life where I stay out of discussions. Even if you say 1+1=5, you're right - have fun." - Keanu Reeves

TomK @ 23:29:02 on 12/1/2016-
Sometimes, some schools. You have to realize HDOE is mainly the biggest daycare organization in Hawaii, so as to allow parents to work 2-3 jobs each sometimes to survive here. gypsy69 @ 13:18:30 - So nice to hear from you- now answer my question of a few days ago on the TMT thread. |
