All of this is beside the point because the TMT will be a zero waste facility and bears no resemblance whatsoever to the Red Hill facility. totally opposite ends of the spectrum. One would have to be hysterical to compare the two.

@MarkP - It should be beside the point, except that gypsy69 has continually pressed the lie about water contamination from the TMT. So I want to know if his own actions regarding the safety of the water, are in line with his own beliefs.

the lie about water contamination from the TMT
Technically, this is completely true, if you include TMT-related "protection" activities with leaky vehicles and raw sewage disposal. No TMT, no side effects, right?

quote: Yes. Cultural traditions are things that you actually did in the past right? I will say this. My brother worked at the IRTF for something like 15 years. When this topic comes up he does confirm that in the early days the observatories were fairly heavy handed and possessive and if they had had their way access to the summit would have been more restricted. There are legitimate grievances. However the response of the protesters in prosecuting these grievances is comically misguided and I stand by my earlier assertions that these protesters are not truly representative of most Hawaiians.

...right back to "these commoners would never have been allowed on the sacred mountain". Meanwhile, in South Dakota: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/ener...-pipeline/ The Army said Sunday that it will not approve an easement necessary for the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota, marking a monumental victory for the Native American tribes and thousands of others who have flocked in recent months to protest the pipeline. I expect this "win" will only embolden the "protectors".

Tulsi Gabbard made this comment in an interview this morning:
"I am personally opposed to the telescope. I think it's important though to focus on the larger issue, which is the conversation that's happening right now within the native Hawaiian community and the community at large which is how to move forward with the sacred land on Mauna Kea. I know that the process is still ongoing and that process is really what important to make sure that their voices are heard and what kind of future they'd like to see*," said Gabbard, represents Hawai'i's second congressional district which includes Hawai'i Island. https://www.instagram.com/p/BNw4AXrD8UJ/ * We're all curious. We're all waiting to hear what they envision. “There's no such thing, unfortunately, anymore as facts." Trump spokeswoman Scottie Hughes
