My husband and I call that spot "the death spot." So many restaurants in there over the years!

That spot is a dead end odd ball zero parking night mare .
Maybe a pool hall with full size tables and pupu's instead of driving all the way to Hilo would be a winner. Charlies lasted the longest - this sushi bland ikky fare the shortest . Occasionally we shop at Ace or the natural foods store by Ace but not Food Land ever. Wonder how long it will be vacant - Shall we collectively make a guesstimate Puna Webbers ? W8 n C Mrs.Mimosa

I don't think it matters what you put in that slot. If there isn't convenient parking close by..people are going to avoid it.

It's actually a pretty big lot, and it's always full, so people ARE shopping at the center.
I loved Hokulani Grill (the steakhouse that was there next-to-last). I heard they went under due to problems with the bar; parking wasn't the problem. With the new office building nearby, there should be a lot of lunch traffic, much of it on foot. Probably be a good pau hana spot, too. That place should succeed if they put in a decent (non-bland-asian) casual dining spot. I'd like to see fresh seafood, flame-grilled chicken and steak, non-locally-sourced salads, and ooey-gooey desserts. A bar wouldn't hurt. ><(((*< ... ><(("< ... ><('< ... >o>

I think a bar with the right atmosphere would do fine. Let the wife go shopping ...or do the laundry.. and give the guys a place to talk story.

quote: Actually, I think Mama Lani's had the longest run there. But that was a long time ago. I'm sure the rent is substantially higher now. Some form of alcohol sales is probably the only way to make it there, but that brings in a whole new set of problems.

Shipman is building some retail space right next to the office building, so nobody will need to walk all the way over to the shopping center. |
