What ever happened to the traffic light that was to be installed at 130 and Shower/Pohaku Drive? There is NO suicide access lane at that very very busy intersection. Coming out of Pohaku, just past the merge, to turn Hilo bound is lethal, accident waiting to happen. I access the highway at Pohaku Place just south of a curve, dangerous as well but at least there is a short access lane. A light at Shower would help break traffic. Do we need more deaths and accidents? How sad. This could have been prevented.

I believe that was in the to do list in the second phase of the highway project.
Unfortunately the governor put a hold on most of the highway projects. It's seems the rail system in Honolulu is taking the funds away from other projects.
HART as its called.. I prefer to call it FART.

Sal Panem shared the following information in regard to Phase II:
The traffic signal on Shower/Pohaku Drive-Route 130 is not included under the current Shoulder Lane Conversion Project (Phase I).
Phase II of this project will be the installation of a traffic signal at Shower/Pohaku Drive.
There is no set schedule for Phase II, as they are working on acquiring the property at this intersection. High voltage electrical lines will also need to be relocated. Approval from the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will need to be obtained prior to these electrical lines being moved.

Survey markers popped up at that intersection a few weeks ago, a few weeks before that I seem to remember reading or hearing that the light project was moving forward as a result of shuffling pots of money around at the DOT. If they call it a "safety" project it becomes a different thing than a "capacity increase" project.

A stop light at Shower and 130 will just boog down traffic causing bad feelings, frustration and down right hostility amongest drivers who use this route daily.

wrapped up by August 2017.

A stop light at Shower and 130 will just boog down traffic
Especially when an accident or HELCO failure turns that intersection into a 4-way stop.

I can save the state $3,720,700 or $4,464,840, the estimated cost of a stop light.
I have done this numerous times, it reduces the wait at Pohaku & Shower by about half:
When stopped at the Pohaku / Shower and Hwy 130 intersection waiting to turn on to Hwy 130 in the Keaau direction, don't turn left, turn right. A few hundred feet down the highway turn left at Poni Moi, the first left turn off the highway. Drive 50-100 feet to the "T" intersection, turn around back towards the highway. At the stop sign on Highway 130 turn right. You're now headed toward Keaau, in half the time, with half the tension of crossing two lanes of traffic in one maneuver.
I'll take my study/consultation fee as a yearly carryover tax credit, thank you, to avoid paying taxes on the compensation.
