BoH credit card keeps getting declined at Lowes
#1
This happened several times at Lowes. Card works everywhere else and calling BoH they say no problems with our cards and it is Lowes' problem. Lowes denies they have a problem.
Anyone else having problems using a BoH card at Lowes?

Sounds like faulty card readers.. I have a PayPal debit card that gets rejected by a store every once in a while ( the strip is a bit scratched).. but I make them blow the dust out of it.. and it usually works.

It's divine intervention trying to tell you that Lowes is the sum of all evil.

If their CC reader is having trouble swiping the magnetic strip, they should be able to physically punch in the card numbers with their keypad. Stores don't like to do this because they get charged a slightly higher rate from their CC processor, but it should allow the transaction to go through.

Good point HOTPE. I don't think cashiers are trained to try that. For that reason.

Wrap the card in a disposable plastic shopping bag, pulling the plastic tight as the card slides through the reader. Exactly why this works is a little beyond my grasp of physics, but I've seen it done many times.

You'll have to find (and bring) your own disposable shopping bag, though.

The card is a chip card and lowes has chip card readers.

Terracore, you make a good point!

If the card has a VISA/MC logo, don't waste time complaining to the merchant or issuing bank, simply inform VISA/MC that their card is not being honored and that the merchant/issuer are refusing to solve the problem.

VISA/MC have a brand identity to protect, even if Lowe's/Safeway/BoH can't be bothered.

Saw this same thing happen in Safeway yesterday. Lady in front of me tried several times to use her card and it wouldn't work. She mentioned to cashier that this only happens at Safeway and her card issuer said it was an issue with the merchant end of things and they should manually enter the card numbers.
