That's true HOTPE but windchill is a measurement based on how it feels on skin.. that's all it was meant to be.. cars.. buildings..etc don't feel windchill.
.. as a side note.. before I met my wife and was civilized ... I would burn through a fifty foot tree a day during the winter. I am well acquainted with cold.

Thanks, alaskyn, certainly understand what you are saying and it makes sense (and yes, I know windchill does not apply to inanimate objects). On the other hand, humans undergo significant physiological effects at 14,000 feet, so I wouldn't be surprised if that situation is more complex.
I had a quick look for research about windchill at altitude but didn't find anything immediately, and wouldn't be surprised if it's something that hasn't been researched too much. It's been a long day so won't look again tonight, but appreciate your observations.

With oxygen deprivation per say..you might perceive things differently as Tom said.. there really hasn't been a study done on that.

Large clusters of thunderstorms with tops to 30-35k are moving towards us from the South. Reports of thundersnow and snow down to 11k on Mauna Kea.

Big boomer off the coast in HPP a little after 11 AM.

There was a 4.5 earthquake just south of Southpoint at 0630 this morning. I got out of bed shortly after because when I woke up I didn't know whether it was thunder or a small earthquake that awoke me.
We had a couple of good rumblers earlier this afternoon, one was so loud it sounded like somebody shot a hunting rifle inside our living room.

Non-stop rain here in lower HPP since early morning. My house is dry but my front and back yard are now small lakes. Anyone have any rain totals for today?

On 22nd in HPP, about 4" since last night and more on the way. We went to Makuu Market during what looked to be a lull in the rain, but did not move fast enough and got caught in the rain.

There should be plenty of snow on Mauna Kea by Monday morning. Whether it'll be visible is another question. The access road is currently completely closed and is impassable at the 6-mile marker above the VIS (a little way beyond where the dirt road ends) although the snow line is much further down than there.
