Those with "low" income get a tax credit intended to offset GET applied to groceries.
...they just have to give the State a free loan and file taxes to get the credit. --- Actually, they receive EBT and the tax credit...

That article is a few years old, but a lot of people don't like beef that is only pasture raised because it can taste "gamey" and is not as tender as beef that is pasture raised and "finished" on grain. Most of the BI beef that is exported from this island are live older calves that are finished on grain on the mainland which costs a fraction of what it would cost to import the grain here. So in essence, like everything else it boils down to economics.
All that being said, we frequently go out of our way to get BI beef. Sometimes its not even more expensive than mainland beef.

I myself prefer the grass fed beef. I find grain fed to be bland in flavor. In the old days they used to age the beef a bit which added to the flavor.( search dry aged beef).
