Luquin's on fire?

In a more litigious culture than Hawaii they might end up owing more than an apology if it could be proven in a court of law that they knew there were people squatting in the building and didn't do anything about it.

I just stopped at a neighbors house who is tearing down an old barn to pick up some weathered wood. I'll probably make some picture frames or other items from it.

I guess it's too late now but did anyone salvage some material from the theatre to create things to sell at the fundraiser? That might be a nice reminder of better days.

I saw several truckloads of weathered 2X4s around town yesterday, I assumed they had been salvaged.

I feel like those wooden buildings that burned down were unsafe because of age and termites. They went up in flames like a matchstick and I think it's a small miracle that no one was burned or worse. I think Sal will be able to open a new Luquin's someday and an outdoor dining area would be great too.

They have had police, fire &/or wrecking crew there since the fire...
Based on the damage, I would guess is that no one will be allowed on-site (with the liability issues), unless they have training, bonding & insurance...something most collectors do not...
I posted this earlier today:

Arrived at the Pahoa Pool today
To a beautiful rainbow over the park
Across the street, the remains of landmarks
Lay to waste, amid flowers

A source in local government told me this afternoon that a couple of guys squatting at the pawn shop got into a tussle over drugs; kicked over some sort of an oil lamp and fled. According to this source, the tenant or owner, I wasn't clear on that, recently ran for public office. There are two suspects in custody.

Maddy Green used to run the pawnshop at that site, but it has been closed for awhile. She did not own the building, the owners said it was uninsured.

Ermie is the owner, she's ancient, maybe 90+, doesn't have a clue.

I'm hoping Luquinitos can open at the former Sukothais in the near future, while Sal figures out his long term plans.

That's a good idea. I sure miss Suko Thai though too.
Assume the best and ask questions.
