My subdivision doesn't even have mailboxes (let alone pavement), so the eternal HPP whinging is really sounding like a "First World Problem", especially when the "rules and laws" and "court orders" are mentioned.
C'mon guys, get it together.

Why don't we really do things up big. Incorporate HPP as a town, get a new zip code and set up a post office on one of those 20 acre lots..
Just kidding. I agree there is a need for more boxes, but why not do it the right way. I'm sure there is a way to get it done without violating the bylaws. What people don't seem to understand is that HPPOA was set up to only deal with roads and only roads. Could be the name confuses people. Maybe it should have been called HPPRA or Hawaiian Paradise Park Road Association. Once you ignore the bylaws, it sets a precedent.

Does anyone know what the line "Maintenance will be minim cost per year" means? I assume this means there's more than the $150 one-time fee. But what?
I have more questions that are not answered in the letter... Would people's mailing addresses change? (this is an obvious burden) Will there be less parcel boxes than currently? Even undeveloped lots (that receive no mail) would have to pay the fees? Etc.

That line set off red flags with me too. My guess is that it's purposely vague. That way, every time they need another million from us for whatever folly they're up to in defiance of land owners wishes and votes, they can refer to this poorly written "ballot/contract" and say we informed you there would be yearly costs and you signed", so pay up suckers.
Strange that the USPS didn't contact us about this. It seems to be something they should have presented to us if it was on the up and up. What has POBoxes got to do with Road Maintainance? All this hoo ha about mail as the roads deteriorate. I have to wonder if the new (and old) Board Members are even aware that their first duty is to maintain the darned roads? How about setting priorities? Fix the roads, and then if there's $ left over, move on to other worthy projects.

Believe that is exactly the point. Why don't we really do things up big. Incorporate HPP as a town, get a new zip code and set up a post office on one of those 20 acre lots.. Exactly. Fighting State/County to allow incorporation would be a far, far better use of HPP's "road" dues, after which the board would have to be replaced with real government subject to the sunshine law, etc.

Even if everyone goes along with this mailbox thing, it's still illegal. What I'm thinking is that the very act of "voting" on this implies it's ok. Best reply is to say "I can't vote ON this, it violates the bylaws.". If you say," I can't vote FOR this", then you are justifying this illegal action.
You have to be very careful of your wording.

Difference being, I actually want to see HPP succeed, and it's clear that their "bylaws and procedures" aren't working; I think any one of my suggestions actually has a better chance of success than their board of, umm, "directors". |
