Particularly Nasty Round of Cold Bug
#1
I know a lot of people have come down with this cold. We finally succumbed Friday night and have been laid low ever since, with it reaching new levels of blech each day. Day 4 and we are not even close to the upswing. It hit everyone in our family and office. We are thinking of going to the doctor today, but I hesitate if they're just going to do something stupid like give an antibiotic when there is no sign of bacterial infection... Drs here irritate me regularly with bogus methods like that.

My question: Has anyone else gone in and gotten a decent diagnosis from a doctor on what this bugger actually is? Is it just being termed a particularly nasty cold bug or is it pneumococcal or?

Sxs: starts with a sore throat. Progresses quickly to chest tightness, cough/sneeze/extreme runny nose. No real fever. Major sinus and throat effects.

It's "the crud". I just got over it myself and Im 61. Took 3 days before feeling better. I believe taking 1000mg pills of ester-c (Vitamin C) daily once first symptoms started helped fight this bug quickly along with Ibuprofen for the aches.

Wife just got over it. Took her almost two weeks. Still has a hack/cough every once in a bit.
Me and the kids were lucky though.

It's probably the flu. I saw on the news that it's epidemic.

Took me three weeks of antibiotics and sinus rinses to get rid of it!

Anybody get the flu shot?

We got it mid Dec. and we've still have the congested head cough. We all had flu shots. Never had a fever. This is the meanest virus we've had in ages. Hope you and yours feel better quick.

I got my flu shot a couple months ago. I was in Honolulu last week for a large Bridge tournament and got a scratchy throat last Thursday night. Did not feel well Friday. Flew home (Pahoa) on Saturday feeling miserable--aches and pains and cough--crawled into bed for an hour. Got up and watched some TV--then slept again. Took Ibuprofen and Sudafed and Aspirin (not at the same time)--and Vicks in the nose. Started feeling better yesterday but with some cough still. I rarely get sick. I'm blaming it on being around lots of people--at the Bridge game, on the airplane, and on the crowded city buses.

We had our flu shots in October. Flew to Oahu Dec. 30th, caught this, and are both still coughing a bit. We used Vitamin C in the early days, and I've been using Flonase so it doesn't settle in long term (that often happens to me with sinus colds).

It's probably germ warfare by Oahu against neighbor islands...
