No vehicle registrations for you
#1
I have two vehicles who's registrations expire this month (safeties are current).

I got the renewal notices in December and I renewed them both online on December 22, including over $13 in "convenience fees" for saving them the trouble of having me stand in their line and renew them in person.

I never got the new registrations or stickers so I called them to inquire what to do next. The lady wasn't helpful at all, telling me I needed to go stand in line "and try to get duplicates". I don't want duplicates. I want the originals that they never sent me. She didn't care.

I have printouts from my online payment receipts, credit card statements showing the charges, etc so documentation shouldn't be a problem.

Has anybody else ever had this problem? Are they going to try and charge me more fees?

If at all possible, I only deal with the government in person, for cash, with a receipt.

"Renew by mail" is a theoretical convenience.

I have found the Kona DMV to be most helpful over the phone. YMMV

I've always been astounded by how nice and helpful the people at vehicle registration are.

Of course, all I have to compare is California DMV, where they pride themselves on rudeness and lack of help.

Terracore - I have to ask. Have you walked under any ladders, broken a mirror or have a black cat cross your path? You don't seem to have a lot of good things happening recently.

It's been like something out of a movie.

The customer experience difference between Hilo and Pahoa DMV offices is astounding.

We recently had one of our vehicles due end of January. I mailed it in 1/25 and it took them almost THREE weeks to process it. We just received our tags and new registration yesterday, way longer than the 10 days they "request" or suggest in the bill notice. My guess is that thousands of registrations come in at the end of the month, and they just plug along at their slow Aloha time pace to get them done. (Maybe yours are still on their way, Terracore.)

Regardless, I am grateful the tags finally arrived, as I was fearing a scenario similar to Terracore's if we never got them, with an apathetic DMV runaround. Our other car is due this month. Maybe I will stand in line this time!

I tried paying my property tax online and they totally screwed it up. Didn't apply my payment. made me miss the deadline and still charged me late fees. Never again.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.
