Hey Tony we are getting there as fast as we can to watch your back, and Jonesy's front!! LOL
This is a good synopsis of peoples comments and I think that each family as well as each different neighborhood should decide what is the best for individual areas. We will do several of the items on the list and may even rotate strategies from time to time. Definitely we would want all supplies delivered to be individually labeled or stenciled, and I'm guessing we could have that written in our sales contract. In Eden Roc I believe there are somewhere near 300 full time residents. We could have a neighborhood barbeque and pass out stickers for bumpers! That would be fun. There is presently a neighborhood watch there but like all such community groups I hear the staffing is sometimes hit and miss, but trying to get established, for lack of a better analogy. Have you seen the EdenRoc road association meeting minutes? http://www.edenrocestates.com/ It is rudimentary but informative. Thanks for taking the time to do this list. I like solutions and will roll up my sleeves to partake in a great neighborhood community that watches out for all, and has an occasional bonding BBQ. Mella mella l

Shotguns?
just kidding. Though I think guns are fun, I refuse to own one b/c I have kids and b/c I believe that violence begets violence. But violent thoughts can sometimes be very soothing. stef

Actually, the one thing that is sure to work, is to have someone living there.
So maybe finding someone who needs a free place to camp out, that is happy with few ammenities. If you know someone let me know. I can offer a room, water and electricity. though no shower or kitchen. stef

Today, I invested in a Shindaiwa trimmer. Believe me, even with 20% off, it's still quite an investment.
Anyway, one of the things Garden Exchange does is a good instructional briefing when you buy there. Lee, the manager, did mine. He admitted that Shindiwa trimmers are subject to theft. He mentioned this just after recording both my serial numbers. Of course, those numbers will be ground off, painted over. Lee's suggestion is to make some secret markings in hidden places then photograph them. Should the item be stolen, supply HPD with a copy of the photo. It seems, a fair number of these stolen items end up back at Garden Exchange for service. With the obliterated serial numbers, no way to track, but with the photo of the secret ID, you get it back. Help really is on the way!
I am working with nanotechnology and one of the uses is to use the unique markers to track the source of LEGAL drugs. Currently to avoid the fake drug market overseas and in Canada most manufactures are using nanotechnology markers (Similar to barcodes) to identify the manufacturer, date of manufacture, inspector, date shipped, date sold etc. I am sure that if we as consumers demand this simple tracking system be put on easily stolen items we and the police will have an easier way to reclaim stolen items. Hopefully this will deter the theives because the pawn shops and buyers of stolen goods can be easily implicated and prosecuted. Will Peratino

One thing that we have on our property is motion lights (6 of them). The whole front yard lights up when a car or person walks into the yard. Very effective IMO.

One solution I've been long wishing for is a simple sting operation. These theives are generally not the brightest lights. If the police would set up a "pawn shop" with some cash and a video camera they could probaby put a real dent in the situation in 30 days.
Or land a stack of lumber on a site with a homing device embedded in a 2x4. They wouldn't have to wait too long or look too far. Neither of these methods are that high tech. I bet the county could dream up a nice fat grant to pay for it too.
Assume the best and ask questions.
