Gypsy, you are extremely delusional again.. turn on the common sense and logic please before you hit 'post' next time......
<<<Many of our Native Hawaiians from the "Big Island" have had to move over to the mainland when they get priced out of paradise>>>... fwiw Puna/Big Island is cheaper to own/buy and live than most of the mainland, so that makes no sense to cash out here and move there to save $$.. they move to Vegas because they like it there or want something totally different. not because its cheaper than Puna
<<<The state of Hawaii should have kept records of these Native Hawaiians who have chosen to leave their homeland>>>
fwiw, the so called "Hawaiians" you see today, descendants from the Society Islands, are rarely full blood, and also fwiw they are not the first people to have found and live in these islands. they were the 2nd in Reality... they killed off the true original settlers, the Marquesas people/Menehune that were here 800 yrs before them... so why would they, the 2nd people, have entitlement to the islands Now? They dont, and shouldnt.. any more than me... I am haole, and was born and raised here 50 years ago, and my descendants were part of the 3rd wave of 'invaders'...
so you think a telescope on Mauna Kea is going to be bait to bring more foreigners to the Big Island and drive up prices?? wow..
in reality the TMT will bring $$ and jobs...
ie
“It’s a huge project for us,” says Dean Au, field representative of the carpenters union, referring to the planned Thirty Meter Telescope atop Mauna Kea. “Hilo is the poorest town in Hawaii. Our economy is in dire need of an uplift.”
"...TMT business manager David Goodman says 20 percent to 30 percent of the $1.4 billion will be spent in Hawaii, with most of that on Hawaii Island. In round numbers, that means about $300 million to $400 million spent in the state from groundbreaking in April 2014 to completion in 2022. That includes an estimated 300 temporary construction jobs on Hawaii Island, which has yet to fully recover from the financial crash of 2008. After it is completed, TMT will provide an estimated 120 to 140 permanent jobs in Hilo and on Mauna Kea, according to organizers. Additional work, such as computer and network support and machine shop projects, will be contracted locally. For instance, in August, a Hawaii firm was hired to conduct geotechnical tests at the site at a cost of $600,000..."
my personal experiences with the Hawaiian TMT protestors.. a high % of them, especially at first when they were more open about it, were in 'it' with their hand outstretched. Once they saw the $1.4 Billion price tag, they wanted compensation for each and every 'Hawaiian'. many openly stated its not fair, they wanted a piece of the pie individually.. kinda like Indian Gaming and their $27 Billion/yr casino $$.. ie royalty/profit sharing checks cut for every member of the tribe -kine handouts... I dont blame them ... but you need to know the true motive behind many of the protests here.. Free $$ and perks or else I no agree...

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha
