This article says both the new iron phosphate and sodium ferric baits contain EDTA and this makes them poisonous to animals. The labeling that says it's safe for animals is an outright lie. The old metaldehyde baits contain and ingredient called bitrex which makes it very bitter tasting so animals won't eat it. The new baits aren't required to have it so they don't. As a result, animals and birds like to eat it and are probably dying in droves. That is if this is true.
