BHawaii -There you go - plenty discussions about access and parking and beach safety at Kehena and or any beach's on this side of island.
Every single person giving suggestions are valid .
Vehicles are vandalized daily at beach's island wide / state wide .
Park farther away and maybe pay a home owner a few blocks away to watch your ride.
Never leave anything of value in your vehicle or risk a break in.
If you have a vicious dog leave the dog in the truck or car with water and windows down half way.
Even at Hapuna Beach - State park side vehicle thefts and break in's occur with regularity .
Ho'okena same same .
We love Ho'okena Beach and travel there once a month with the grand kids.We make a day of it and stay with friends at their BnB north of green gate at Ho'okena.
Explore and have fun.

The ocean at Kehena can be quite dangerous and unless you really know what you are doing you should just enjoy the beach. If you are a strong swimmer and understand the dangers, it's your choice. I'll swim there at times, but it's a bit adrenaline producing getting in and out on occasion. As far as parking, I've not had problems. I lock and don't bring valuables and leave nothing in sight in the vehicle.

Mrs. Mimosa in my experience always provides advice based on her experiences. While it may not match everyone's experiences, it's worth considering as she and Mr. Mimosa have lived here longer than most of us combined. It's OK to question the information if your experience is different, but it's not really productive to attack the person, no matter who it is or what is said.

Maybe it is just the (place|way|time) that I was raised, but we were taught to ALWAYS listen to the elders/kapuna, and if we disagreed or were offended to just keep our mouths shut. That was their place and that was ours.
Agree or disagree, it is some great advice.
With age comes life experience.

Dogs seem to be a good deterrent for 90% of car thieves but realistically if someone wants into your vehicle, its going to happen. To most hardened criminals, dogs aren't a big worry.( now someone looking for an easy break-in, different story) As mentioned not leaving any valuables is key, if you can't live without it; don't leave it at a beach park. I'm personally born and raised in Hawai'i(granted not Hawai'i Island)but have never had an issue with any theft.

I also look for shattered window glass in parking lots, good indicator of break-in probability

Big Island Thieves, love that site; actually think its putting a hurting the fugitives/thieves somewhat. Great for people living pono and NOT ripping people off.
