My son was loading purchases into the car at Orchidland General this morning when a man on a skateboard came up behind him. The man jumped into the car with his belongings and demanded a ride. Unfortunately my son started the car and drove off with him instead of calling the police. He kept him driving around for more than 30 minutes.
It all ended when I became worried about the length of time my son was gone so I called his cell. I guess my phone call prompted the guy to end the hijacking and demanded to be let out of the car at the Kea'au McDonalds.
Thought I would let people know to beware. Not sure what the guy intended. I am so glad I made the call.

Kea'au McDonalds is all of 100 yards from the police station!
Did your son take a picture of the guy with his cell phone? Any possibility that the cameras at McDonald's or the gas station have this guy recorded?

I'm glad your son was not physically injured, but he needs a serious talk about what to do if anything like this ever happens again. Hint: Run like hell and call the cops as soon as safely possible. Are the police investigating?

No photos. He doesn't even know there is a police station right there.
We will be having a big discussion about this after I finish work today.
No investigation at this time.

I'm glad your boy is safe and sound. Lesson learned. Too bad we have to worry about turning our backs while loading groceries.

Oh Susan!!! I'm so glad your son is okay. How terrified he must have been. I'm glad you're going to talk with him about what to do if something like this happens again. Big hugs.

End of story is that we go to the store using the buddy system from now on. He knows to walk back into the store and call for help.

They have surveillance cameras at that store.
I go there a lot and many times people are soliciting, and loitering, right in front of the entrance.
Very annoying.
I wonder why the owners let it persist.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

A couple days ago I saw 2 young women, quite obviously meth heads, practically throw themselves in front of a car that was parking. I think he was their source because they couldn't even wait for him to park before they were trying to get in the car, clawing at the car like maniacs.
A couple minutes later they were dashing behind the building.
On one level, kind of funny. On another, so very, very sad.
