Leilani Estates?
#11
The coqui do take some time to get use to and they only come out at nite. But some people pay to hear all the sounds of the birds and other animals around the area dont forget we are living in a rain forest.

Aloha Kahunascott,

:-) that was funny. How bad is the coqui problem? The book I was reading claims that the sound can be so bad at times that you can hardly have carry on a conversation. It warns the reader to make that one of the things you look for when searching for real estate. I have never heard them but I do love nature and am assuming they sound like crickets? (I hope) I visited Puerto Rico (I think that’s where they invaded Hawaii from) for the first time 2 years ago and I was hoping to hear them. I read about the problem with their invasion in Hawaii a couple of years ago in Hawaii Magazine. I didn't hear them but I think I saw one while I was there.

Lenny, they sound like crickets with megaphones. We have crickets here, but I haven't heard one in years because of the frogs' racket.

Aloha John,

Actually we put the trip off for this month because we are showing the house off as much as we can. We are hoping for the right offer to come up fast! However, we do want to set up a time to meet with you as soon as we get there. We have a potential date of August 17th for the trip. Hopefully we will have a secure offer on the house before that date.

Wow lava zone 1! eekkkss, I guess I have to see the area when we visit. Is there private water in these parts or are all the homes on catchment? I keep asking that because I am still not too convinced about living with a catchment system. The real estate adds do not help because they usually advertise the properties with private water and city water as if it was this big deal. Usually they say "private water/city water NOT CATCHMENT."

What part of the island do you live at if you do not mind me asking? I guess if you pay the same for Lava zone 2 as I would for lava zone 1 it doesn't make a difference. Do you happen to have a coqui problem?

That bad huh? Yikes, I guess I'll have to invest in ear plugs, but I am still moving! Do they come in the house? Last question promise!

Occasionally they manage to get inside. They hatch out of the egg fully formed and hopping, only about 1/4 inch long, can get through tiny spaces.

Aloha Lenny,
We just recently purchased a beautiful home in Leilani and after looking at homes in all the different neighborhoods in Puna, decided that Leilani is the most beautiful spot on the Island (just our opinion folks), coquis and all. I have to say that even though the coquis are loud, we actually enjoy them and don't have any trouble falling asleep by their song. I know their chirping bothers some people but we happen to find it enjoyable. As far a Lava Zone 1 goes....yes our insurance is higher but we don't feel the threat of lava flow is great enough to be worried about it. Everyone we've met in Leilani has been very nice and friendly always waving and saying hello. I think you would love it in Leilani but it really is best to come see the neighborhoods yourself in order to make the choice that is right for you.

Good luck in your search!
Aloha,
Paula

Aloha Paula,

Sounds like Leilani estate is preety friendly and family oriented. That is exactly what I am looking for. Everybody continues to say it is a beautiful place. I can not wait to visit. If all goes well I will be there to see for myself in about two months.

Mahalo for the informatio!

we moved here 4 years ago from the bay area in fremont ca.and we live in Hawaiian beaches it took us a long time to get use to the stores being so far away and the hospital is also far way and Hilo only has 1 hospital on this side of the island it takes about 30 min to get there.Hawaiian beaches is in lava zone 2 and we have private water.we live around alot of nice families that have been here for alot of years .when we moved here they brought over Hawaiian sweet bread and cookies. There is alot of kids always playing outside.we always leave all the windows open whenever we go away to the mainland and dont have to worry about anyone stealing from us. I think i cried for almost a years lol.for my girls. But now we want to go back to be closer to our kids and grandkids they came here and tried it and didnt like the slower pace of living.we love it here and it is gonna be hard to leave hawaii.and we have alot of family already here grandparents that are 90 years old and also my parents that is why i keep on trying to sell or rent our house .HAWAII IS TRULY PARADISE.BUT YOUR HOME IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS.ALOHA from Ann

Aloha Lenny

It was months researching subdivisions before we decided on LE, and that was before we arrived last Sept., only 1 full day looking at properties to pick the one we wanted to call home. It was easy, when we say it we knew it felt like home, you too will experience something similar whether it be land or a house. You can email me privatly and I can tell you where we got our house plans/pkg, they really worked with us to customize the plan we liked, they have very "Island" style homes. I also had a fabulous realtor who worked diligently over email with me for 5 months before I arrived.

Aloha and the best of luck,
Cindy
