Opihikao, what was that strange sound at 11:45?
#1
I was making a sandwich for lunch when all of a sudden I heard a mournful wailing sound in the direction of 4th Street & Maku'u where a pole on the corner has a bright yellow horn on top. Lucky for me I didn't drop the cutting knife on my foot.

I thought of you opihikao and wondered, where are you? I miss your regular early warnings on the 1st of every month. Who knows how many potential lunch injuries you may have prevented over the years?

It's the rare Hawaiian "neris" bird. You can hear it's mating call monthly, normally at about 11:45 in the morning. I've never actually seen one but I have heard the call a few times. Someone told me they are beautiful and like to perch on the tops of poles....

Good one, 8fingers. ... Seriously, did the tsunami siren test go off and only release a "mournful wailing"?

Twice now I've happened to be stopped at 11 and 130, turning left at Ken's, and man, that one is LOUD. You are right next to it at that stop light!
