Yes, what did Hawaii and the country at large ever gain from immigrants?
Any immigrants in your family history?

Might want to rephrase that question. I do not believe that many Hawaiians take a positive view on what immigrants have done to their society over the centuries.

Did not the Hawaiians themselves emigrate here?
Assume the best and ask questions.

We are all immigrants. This is why I find xenophobes so amusing.

Who are you calling a xenophobe, PaulW?

Doesn't seem like anyone posting here is afraid of foreigners? All we are asking is that immigrants follow the legal process that is long established and if you try to do it illegally, you should be sent back as the rules/laws say. Do you believe that being convicted of TWO DUI's while here illegally, isn't serious enough to warrant deportation? It also means he was driving with no license and most likely no insurance either. Is that also OK with you?

Who am I calling a xenophobe? Anyone with an irrational fear of immigrants.

I don't know who had a DUI or was driving with or without insurance.
There is a demand for labor and if it can't be filled legally then it will be filled illegally.
That's not for me to like or not, it's a fact of life.

If they think they can deport all of these supposed illegal immigrants in Hawaii then go ahead,
but why not start with the real bad hombres.

Then you didn't bother to read any of the details about this person?

The media narrative of the last decade has been to blur the distinction between "immigrants" and "illegal immigrants". If you read a newspaper or watch the television they refer to the two groups as if they were one in the same. As far as the mainstream media is concerned, all immigrants are legal immigrants, and anybody who opposes immigration of any kind is a racist.

My mom immigrated to this country. She immigrated legally and became a citizen as soon as she was able to.

What's the difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration? Legal immigrants learn the laws of this country before they get here, learn to speak English, learn our country's history, apply to live here legally, pass the test in English, and take the oath and become citizens. Like mom did.

Illegal immigrants start their lives here by learning how to circumvent our laws. It sounds crass, but it's part of the deal. That's what "illegal" means. Breaking laws.
