I would feel so much better if UH got the $ instead of DOH.
IMO, DOH doesn't do much during health emergencies.
Dr Jarvi is on the forefront of real research and she gets crumbs.
DOH gets the whole cake and they farm out all the real work to CD, and DOT during health emergencies.
DOH role seems to only include news conferences. (Wouldn't want to get those pretty clothes dirty in the trenches)

It's just the hippies in Puna getting sick from raw veggies.
It'll take a government official or some other high maka-maka person from Oahu getting sick before anything is really done and the gears start moving on it.

Looks like the many Water catchments in Puna and other Hawaii counties may be of some concern after all when it comes to this RLW disease.

Maybe all veggies and fruit should be washed with potable water before eating. Personally i have seen both slugs and rats in many water catchments. My next question would be about the many Coqui frogs.
Can the Coqui frogs carry or move the RLW parasites?
I see these Coqui frogs in the water catchments and on the tank covers even living in the same areas as the rats and slugs on a regular basis. The little slimy Coqui frogs love to live around the gutters and catchment tanks for the easy access to water. The frogs and there eggs can make their way into many Catchment tanks pretty easily. Just wondering why a disease that's been around Puna for a couple decades now is infecting more folks today than ever before?

Is this what you do for a living, or do you regularly inspect other people's catchment systems for a hobby? Just curious.

Sounds like a neighborhood that would be bad for human health. I wonder why the residents don't form an organizing committee, and demand the County manage a buyout and relocation fund for homeowners at this ratfrog slugworm ground zero. The rats, coqui, and slugs could pay for it.

He doesn't post much anymore and still he gets grief. (residual anger?)

Nope.
The post included extended commentary on the possibility that coqui frogs transmit rat lungworm. There is no study that suggests this is possible. My reply was a proportionate response to that comment. Only.

Unless you think there's no possibility that confusion won't enter into the rat lungworm discussion when unfounded transmission vectors are introduced, considering research and education is still ongoing. It's a serious life and death problem that could affect anyone in Puna. Do you think needlessly complicating the fight against it serves any purpose?

Such as: allocating funds to DoH for "outreach" when there's an actual researcher who could make better use of the money?

Yes, exactly like that.
Too.
