Does anyone here know the true meaning of the word "Luddite"?

Well as you mentioned a term from a little country off of Europe which is not near Puna,I kinda assume that you would think of Elon Musk as a Luddite for his concern about AI?

If you have 5-6 contractors bidding on a job, trust me, it will most likely get done on time and under budget.
Like Highway 130? Or like Saddle Road? Or maybe the golf course?

Why is the State not protecting us from Rat lungworm?
To paraphrase the beloved president "Ask not what the State can do about Rat lungworm ask what I can do about Rat lungworm." Though what happens when the crisis passes? In my wildest paranoia do they sit in their cubicle and drink Starbucks all day??
I heard those longshoreman make nice 6 figure salaries?? Hope they don't go on strike though. We all going starve to death!
I saw the Kona Long's had canned corn beef for$2 so might as well get couple cans.

My neighbor works for Matson & he makes a boatload of money. He said their newer ships could easily sail with one or two crew, they're so automated. But the union requires "sailors" to fill certain "required" positions. They're paid 24/7, even though as my neighbor described their assignments, you'd be hard pressed to recognize the difference between on duty and off duty. Sleeping, eating, watch videos, eat some more, play video games, eat again, repeat.
Their main function is to be there should an emergency arise. This seems like a reasonable precaution, to pay people to handle an emergency on a multi-million dollar ship, which is carrying multi-millions of dollars of cargo. If an emergency did occur, he assured me most of those on board would be in the lifeboats as quickly as is humanly possible, because everything is insured anyway.
The Donner Party really wasn't that great of a party, was it?

That self-check-out station was installed by union labor and inspected by government employees, plus it allows the merchant to avoid paying the higher minimum wage.
Any lost jobs are obviously the fault of workers who couldn't be bothered to keep their skills up to meet the new requirements, so they will obviously need "universal basic income" to continue to afford to live here.

As long as my untrained, unpaid, retired, bad back self is able to scan my items faster and bag them more efficiently than paid staffers can, I'll continue to use the self check-out. Does that make me a bad person? Perhaps...but like my perishable products, I have a limited shelf life and I prefer not to spend it listening to auntie swap recipe ideas with a union member check-out employee who is oblivious to the backup in his/her lane.
