We used Les at Atlas Ins. in Hilo and he did a great job for us. The phone # is 935-2943. You will end up with a Lloyds of London policy it just depends on which broker(?)they go thru. The price of the policy will also be effected if you will be renting or not.
Good luck, Paula

Mahalo, Paula! I'll call him. I was told that Lloyd's of London won't issue insurance that covers damage from lava or fire. Will check it out. Mahalo & Aloha, Lee

Aloha Lee,
We just bought our policy in Feb. and it is with Lloyds. Yes, they will not insure against lava but they DO insure against fire, and you can be sure that if lava flows over your home, it will catch on fire, which is covered. Our policy costs about $3500/yr. just in case you were wondering. But we figured it was a reasonable trade off for the low property taxes in Puna. Hope Les can help you. It sounds like you are in the process of buying or building in Leilani. We love it!! Aloha Paula

Aloha Paula,
Mahalo. Yes,indeed. We're building in Leilani and love the development and the area. We've been on Oahu for going on three decades and wanted to live in a more rural environment. Were looking for other places to live when a dear friend from Santa Cruz introduced us to the Puna area. I'm a classical guitarist, by profession. Lamont was kind enough to ask me to play on a regular bases at the Outpost, so I'm looking forward to having a place to play in Pahoa. Folks that we've met in Leialani and in the area have just been super. Warm, friendly, relaxed...very cool! Aloha, Lee

LeeE, you might want to try Paolo's in Pahoa. He had a guitarist playing there the last two times we went there.

Hey John,
Thanks much for the suggestion. We were in Pahoa last month having dinner at one of the great thai restaraunts there. After dinner, we took a walk and noticed that there was a very talented classical guitarist playing at Paolo's. The guitarist kindly let me sit in and play for a bit. The customers and folks walking down the street seemed to enjoy my music and afterwards, the manager came out and asked me to come back and speak with the owner about the possibility of playing there. I'd love to and will drop by Paolo's to talk with the owner when we come back next week to do some work on the house. Mahalo & Aloha, Lee

Lee-Much good luck and Aloha in building your home in Leilani! Are you building in upper or lower Leilani. Hey, did you know we are from Santa Cruz? And another friend and Punawebber, CindyV, who is building in Leilani right now, is also from Santa Cruz area?
I'll look forward to hearing you play at Paolo's (being positive here), it's one of our favorites, of course. Paula
