Hi Punatalk,

My better half talked about moving here one day, she applied for a job and got it so we moved here 3 months ago.
We are both laid back, young at heart 50ish, who just kinda keep keeping on.
Not sure whats in store for us here but we love a fun challenge, gardening, fishing, hunting, snorkeling... oh, and last but not least, the fabric store!

Welcome!
Hope you're getting settled in, had a good Thanksgiving, and enjoyed "Tundra" the last few days, one of Big Island's many climate zones. There's so much to do here, I'm sure you'll love the adventure!

Aloha Mr. Perfect,

I would suggest to take my advice and not spend too much time here as here seems to be like a good o' boys club here that finds a way to needle and peck at you if you have a differing opinion.

You watch what happens to this post of mine here for an example. I will be 'invited' to take my own advice, or a snarky comment will be made since I beat them to their own punch.

Make sure you sign up for the FW email updates, they always have great promotions and sales year round.

Hah, plenty of snarky comments, cliques and quips anywhere you go online. People aren't face to face so nothing is held back. That being said, so what? If you're looking to gain deep, meaningful, trusting friendships, the web isn't the place but if you're looking for a wide variety of colorful comments and usually helpful information then viva Puna Web.

Thanks and Happy Holidays to all.

I just got the last string of Christmas lights hung up, flipped the switch and NOW it feels like a Hawaiian Christmas.

We are renting a little place not too far from the ocean for now and, i have to say it and totally sound like a noob, ITS AWESOME! I can hear the waves crashing, smell the ocean breeze and last week snorkeled for the first time in Kapoho.
WOW! Let me repeat that exclamation, WOW!

Moved here from the Rocky Mountain states but have lived all over. Mrs. P is an Army brat so she spent time at Schofield Barracks back in the day so when the time got right, we made the move.
Best decision EVER!

Looking for our little piece of heaven but up a ways from the coast.
We are just working class people so a beach house was never really on our radar.

I have acclimated quickly to the climate but the culture is taking a little longer. My observation so far is that most people I interact with seem to be down to earth, quite pleased with their lives and well, its a cliche, but laid back... I don't have a dog in the fight yet but with the exception of road maintenance, not much riles people up.
I ran into a couple 'Keyboard Commandos' on another site but cyberspace would be boring if somebody didn't have their panties in a bunch about something I wrote.

RWR- I think i might be one of those people. I own several fishing poles, I'm shopping for a compound bow, im trying to muster the courage to spearfish (((SHARK))), and im planning on building my own house. Yea, i just reread that, im definitely one of those people! But im my defense ive learned more from a spirited debate than from agreeing with myself.
So i say bring it on. If im doing something dumb please gawd tell me before it hurts, bleeds or costs me money...

As for our future success PaulW said it best, "it all depends on you."
I paraphrased a little but that was the gist. PaulW, I couldn't agree more.

Thank you all for your warm welcome and i mean that most sincerely.

Mr. Perfect - there's one piece of advice I always tell any newcomers to the island that I meet. I'm sure it applies elsewhere but think it's particularly important here. Make friends with your neighbors. Even if you're planning to move, those neighbors will become lifelong friends and will know all sorts of other people that will help you out when you need it. There will be times like this in the future, it's a small island and the greater the number of friends you make, the happier you will be!

Puna is a wonderful place if you make it work for you. There are some downsides which you'll discover, but the plusses far outweigh the minuses. Have fun and enjoy a special place!
