Rain, Mauna Kea, Skiing, and Altitude Sickness
#61
Yeah, I'm hoping this could turn out to be my final ski season.
It is a La Nina year and we are slated for heavier than normal precip this winter.
That got my hopes up and heart to pounding.
It's still early in the season and time will tell.
But, skiing Mauna Kea would be the way to bring my skiing to a close.

My brother, as well as several Alaskan friends, will be green with envy, if I get it done.

EDIT:
I'm in the process of rebuilding my online photo gallery.
I've been putting up some of my older ski and paddling photos so far.
I'll get back to it and upload more in that category as soon as I finish this. Then, I'll add a link to them. It may take a day or two to get it done.

Was a Democrat until gun control became a knee jerk, then a Republican until the crazies took over, back to being a nonpartisan again.

It looks as though a Kona low might form this coming weekend and those systems often bring snow to MK. However, it's a little too early to say for certain right now. The forecasts should tighten up a bit in the next couple of days.

The latest forecast doesn't have much snowfall this weekend. Sorry. Still, a few months to go...

It's a little early to say this is certain, but there's a possibility of lots of snow falling on MK starting early next week (Monday 18th and beyond).

NWS suggesting 12-24 inches of snow at the summit through Wednesday night. MKWC not predicting the same thing but thinks there will be snow. Maybe time to wax the skis?

My eyes are dilating and I'm hyperventilating.

They're a little more conservative here:

Waxing might be a good just-in-case, keep-busy type of thing to do.

MKWC predicted the heaviest snow occurring tonight through Weds afternoon. There's quite a blizzard going on right now.

Just looked through the MK info sites.
It's beginning to look as if Friday might turn out to be a good time to give it a try, if the roads get cleared.
Looks to be time to do a gear check.
Skis and tuning gear are coming out today, then gather everything together.
What I don't have, I don't need.

My skis have a lot of miles on them and show it.
But, I still don't consider them to be "rock" skis.
That may change after using them one time on MK.

I'm still a bit apprehensive about available O2.
Slow and easy will probably be the attitude of the day.

Just noticed the wind barbs for Friday's forecast, 45kts.
That's over 50mph.
Saturday's forecast is down under 25mph, a bit more doable.
Although, if the road is open, I may drive up on Friday anyway, just to take a look and assess my O2 needs.
Gawd, I'm out'a shape, and practice!
