HPP 2018

Since There is no other place for the residents of basically a small city to communicate. That everyone can access. Can we start a new tread every once again n a while to not have to dig thru 50 pages of diatribes

I understand that it’s tiring Seeb, but there really is some good information contained on those 50 something pages. I just skip over all the personal attack stuff and mine for the jewels of info.

I welcome your thread Seeb, perhaps we can finally have a simple exchange of ideas that may help build some kind of positive consensus sans the same omnipotent "know it all presence" that tends to hijack this topic, over and over again with the overpowering bulletins on the Board's and manager's latest bowel movement.

Recently, I had to approach the Manager regarding a road issue, to my surprise they were not only receptive but they brought in the machinery and materials next day, to fix all problems.

Less talking, more doing.

I remember you joining in with the others ranting about the manager's latest bowel movement. Glad to hear your road finally got worked on. So did he just show up or did you put a call in?

I reread your post and see you spoke with the general manager. I've heard similar stories. If you go into the office he shows up on your road. I don't think I'm alone on this. Why do we have to go into the office to get the crew to show up on our road?

Probably because you have over 140 miles of road.
Assume the best and ask questions.

It is a huge subdivision, and frankly I dont think that such small operation working, as well, with an imposible budget can tackle all the work that needs to be done. In my view we were all taken with promises that never added up.I would not want to be in their shoes honestly. I did have my share of ranting because of sheer frustration with the road association, I just think that they were a dud from the very beginning and nothing will ever change no matter who is at the helm. A small group of folks trying to manage a large association is just not doable. So ths very few that follow the association comings and goings are just spinning their wheels. The County should have never permited the subdivision plans without proper roads to sustain a potential large population. That is why, even although I do not hold my breath with Kim, I think that the bill to take over the road fees and maintenance is just the best and only posible outcome. I trust it will happen; Puna has the fastest demographic growth in Hawaii, and it cannot be ignored. So in the meantime a logical and respectful approach to the manager's office may just be the best thing available.

That's how these subdivisions were founded.

I can't help thinking about my time in HOVE and how the road maintenance crew there did an amazing job for $100/year. I still cannot figure out why HPP has such problems - aren't the two subdivisions about the same size? What gives?

Joe, HPP has a history of bickering going back to the 90's when so many HPP members were suing the hui and each other that Judge Nakamura put it into receivership. The receivership period is referred to by old timers as a "golden age" with professional management and decent road maintenance. Unfortunately, the judge eventually allowed a supposedly reformed HPPOA to take over from the pros. It's been downhill ever since.

As to why we can't get along, I think it's because most of the people who seek to be on the board are either in it for the power or have unrealistic views that the thing should be something like a mainland homeowners' association. I have seen otherwise respectable people stoop to childish power trips and ethical meltdowns once they got into the HPP power structure. That's why I support Joy Sanbuenaventura's legislation that would provide oversight or even a method to abolish the mess and throw back into the county's lap where it belongs. After all, it was the county that started the whole problem by breaking their own laws.
