PetsMart for Hilo

Does anyone know the expected opening date for the Hilo PetsMart? November turned into March. I hope it is happening soon. []

Well, it is pretty challenging to get approval for an interior remodel of an existing building which is already properly zoned.

I'm betting the Keaau Long's will be open sooner than PetSmart/TJMaxx or Luquin's.

The TJ Maxx is much farther along with their opening preparations , and should be ready by March 15. The PetCo shell construction should be wrapped by April as far as I understand. However, they still need to outfit the shell of the store.

Opening a business in an existing permitted/finaled building with correct zoning and full utilities takes at least a year, probably because the Building/Planning folks are so overworked they can barely find time to cash their paychecks and figure out how to spend their raises.

It only seems slow to haoles; locals aren't in any hurry.

Well now that I get most of my pet supplies from Amazon I am not that much in a hurry. There’s also the Petco in Kona, I could use a new place to take the dogs on outings beside Home Depot. So as not to appear to be a haole in a hurry.
