Fletch is back. I heard some rumors that they are going to remove all the lava that is covering up the old subdivision. If there is some truth to this matter i would love to find out a source, city and county, private developers etc. I used to visit this area as a child and have a special attachment to it. If anyone knows could you please respond. aloha

That would be an incredible task. It's way over 20 feet deep in places.

Not quite as hard as draining the ocean to fix a leak but certainly up there.

Fletch, they started resurveying Kalapana and I assume that is what you heard. There will be no removing of lava.

Ready for a laugh? I had clients that were going to rebuild on their lot that was covered by lava years ago. Went to bldg dept with new bld permit application. Had to get a demo permit first and get all appropriate depts signed off... One dept actually had to send an inspector out to see if a house was there still.... okay I understand but demo permit said "inundated by lava".... Sometimes if you let it... life just makes you laugh!
