The Governor is right. And why go halfway here? Let's boost the prison term to 2 years for these sorts of offenses.
And five criminals recently caught were from California.
We can't continue to allow tourists to so abuse and trample our laws and way of life. Make these California criminals a top prosecution priority for stiff sentencing. That will send out the proper message.

"In the past 10 days, about a dozen people have been cited for loitering in lava zones, some of whom are eligible to be disciplined under new guidelines established by Gov. David Ige earlier this month. Of those cited, four were in Hawaiian Paradise Park, Lava Tree State Park, three at Paakili, and several others in the Mackenzie State Recreation Area."

Good contribution, glinda. A thoughtful and convincing appeal. Unfortunately the critics to lava viewing (from the ground) are persistent and likely to influence officials mulling a lava viewing site. Opinions saying
let's not do this generally go far in Hawaii County.

It is rumored that the police are taking family and friends in to visit the lava flows... (Under other circumstances, I would normally dismiss such rumors, but, given that this is Hawaii - where special people get special privileges - I'm less inclined to do so.)

There is now a large contingent of don't set up a lava-viewing site commentators. If you are NOT one of them I am gratified to hear that.
