EDIT - IT IS TRUE
(sorry caps locked!)

Crumb, too late to have anyone else file for candidacy to be on the ballot..... Not quite sure how I feel...
not sure if it is true, but her website has changed, from the "aloha I`m Jen Ruggles" front piece to the Lava and Earthquake resources (the "Aloha" meet Jen page still flashes by in an instant, but no longer has hang time...
Too bad if true, 1. she was starting to show some initiatives & more understanding for the district AND 2. the 2018 candidate filing close at the beginning of the month, so it would be hard for someone who would have been for her to step up now......not sure about who the other choices will be...but time will tell on all of this..

Here are the three slated candidates (obviously, if Jen recuses herself, there will be the other 2, though all three could still be on the primary ballot...

Ric Wirick has been a member of the Orchidland Board of Directors for several years now. Many of the Board's actions during his tenure have been extremely controversial and potentially unethical (as has been documented in numerous Punaweb threads and ongoing court case). In my opinion, Ric has not done anything during his terms that would lead me to believe he would be an effective and respected Puna representative on the County Council.

Which Board? The "legitimate" one?

Ric Wirick has been the Secretary of the Orchidland Community Association Board since July 2015, the ONLY Board recognized by the Court. For those of us who live in Orchidland this is also the ONLY Board to ever service ALL the roads. Our roads have never been as good as they are now. What has been termed as the "Wirick Board" has done a stellar job of serving the OLCA community, at the same time fighting a law suit, and saving the Association from receivership and the clutches of Nancy Cabral!
On the other side of the lawsuit is Barbara Arthurs and her small contingent of supporters, termed the "Arthurs Group". These people claim to be the Board, but none of them were ever elected. Their Board members change on a whim, once again with any election. They hold meetings and when they don't have a quorum they bring in random persons to sit "Pro Tempore" to participate and vote. They make the rules up as they go along to suit their agenda and are apparently incapable of doing what an average 8th grader could do and google what a Pro Tempore situation actually is. They have no power, no access to OLCA funds, and no legal authority to enter OLCA into any contracts.
I know Ric Wirick to be a hardworking man of character and he has my vote. If you knew the whole story surrounding the lawsuit he would have your vote too.

Much as I hate to say it, I think Wirick's Board has a better claim to "legitimacy" than the other Board, though that's a low bar in Orchidland. The Board Wirick sits on took advantage of loopholes, Bylaws weaknesses and member apathy to oust Board members they didn't like and replace them with like-minded individuals that were elected in "special elections" held during monthly Board meetings that usually had attendance of less than 20 people. They may not have violated the letter of the law, but their actions definitely contributed to the ensuing environment of lawsuits and counter-suits, restraining orders, etc. Members of the incumbent Board that Ric sits on were recently re-elected, though only about 200 votes were cast out of a potential voting universe of about 2000, and the winning candidates each only received about 150 votes.
