Lot of people asking on facebook if they do tours to the lava river, but I don't see any response.

FYI: "Special Permission from CD" = bribe or favor from relative
But I doubt it's that in this case because it doesn't work if you're a haole. It is a good question how that guy got in there to take that video. There are supposedly no commercial tours or photographers allowed in the restricted area.

I googled the name too and found that business. But did not want to be presumptuous and assume they provided the footage to KGMB news.
Still doesn't answer how they got permission to go to the lava river. Bet there's some officials from the county and state reading Punatalk discussion on lava access. I guess they elect to stay mum.

In Leilani, access is going to be more difficult because the properties neighboring the berm are off-limits. But in the areas around Noni Farms, wouldn't it be much easier for the nearby homeowners?

July 3 Update: Officials report they are getting close to choosing a viewing site.
http://bigislandnow.com/2018/07/03/hawai...ing-plans/ Strange comment: "According to Honolulu Star Advertiser, Gov. David Ige said last week, “You can see the lava flow from Hilo. So it’s anything on that side of the island. Obviously, it would not be down in Puna, specifically.” Can't see it from the top of Hilo Lagoon Center, one of Hilo's tallest buildings. (Only the glow). Where in Hilo did Governor Ige see the flow from, or was told it is visible?

Tourism Bureau apparently has $1.9M to spend promoting the Big Island... despite the lack of a viewing site (or plans for one). It's the best time to visit. Honest, we really mean it. |
