Decline in Real Estate
#61
I just posted a response to that thread! Wow, that person spewing all anti- low income doesn't have a clue. Just a few years ago most people thought anything in Kau was low income.

As a side note I find it interesting that 95% of the mold inspections my husband has done have been on the Kona side. Interesting.

Not attacking anyone or straying off topic just stating a fact.

Aloha,

This is paraphrased from the Hawaiian Island Journal
People move to a place because of what it is, and generally want it to stay that way. But their very act of moving there changes it for those who came before. Each wave of immigrants brings its own values, and wants those values to stay the same, too.

It is attitudes like the person who doesn't want low income housing in Discovery Harborthat make long time residents/island born folks have an anti-haole sentiment.

I agree Punagirl, would be nice if someone who was born and raised here could actually afford housing on that side of the island too. While we were in Puna in June, it became apparent that while driving through different subs some homes were new, some were not, some were real beaters. But that never bothered me much...I just accept that there are places that aren't gonna be the Ritz. Most of the beatup houses we saw were deep within a subdivision and the lots were big enough that it didn't lessen any opinion about the next property on the street...if that makes sense. These homes in DH look really nice to me. They are new and fresh and who cares what a person pays for them if they aren't the ones buying? They're even complaining about the paint colors for God's sake. Well - change it!

If I wanted to live in a place with walls up all around everything I would go back to Southern California...there are walls everywhere. When I was growing up in upstate New York, you could walk in your backyard and see other backyards...actually see trees and grass...not everyone had a fence and it was a riot as a kid 'cause you could have major hide-n-seek games over several yards...no one cared. We were just being kids. Maybe some families will be able to afford one of those houses in DH. In So. Cal. you couldn't do that...there were apartment buildings everywhere and the houses all had walls around them. I like that things are open and no sineage everywhere to block the beautiful sky out in Puna. (I know I wandered a bit there but I think the walls around some of those homes are not condusive to being a kid or knowing your neighbors...didn't really know any neighbors in So. Cal. either. There's more that live on this island beside retirees or people with investment properties, right?)

I'm peeved at the DH steel home auction because it seems to me Westpro is simply cutting their losses and splitting- at the expense of other homeowners

These steel frame houses have had a hard time selling from the get go.They had resort to
offering FREE CAR with house purchase a few
months ago.
