Okay Haoleboy, what would it take to get you into one of these sweet DH houses? A Camry? Accord? Or are we talkin' Lexus?
I'm sure the Mazda Tribute is a fine car, but giving it away to sell unwanted homes doesn't do much for the brand image. Now imagine if the give-away actually worked: everyone in DH would be living in identical houses driving identical cars, perhaps all the same color. A scary thought.

As far as the DH Auctions go....IMHO it seems like the developers just built too many inexpensive homes in an area that just isn't growing as fast as Puna is. DH is a lovely area but development there has been slow because it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere and there are very few services nearby. Some people love that about DH but most of the people buying in that price range will need to have jobs and the commute would be almost impossible in either direction, I would think.
It will be interesting to see if the homes are actually purchased by individuals planning on living there or be gobbled up by investors who plan to rent them out. If they do turn out to be mostly rentals I think that lots of people will be loosing money.

Isn't this a similar scenario to what happened in HOVE? Wasn't there major plans to build and just really too far from regular shopping, gas, etc? I'm not real clear on that...anyone?

Clearly, the problem is the damn speculators! Maybe the speculators will have to give up, on the high sales prices, and leave Hawaii, to the people who simply love it.
