Yes, but as an intermural activity, you might have noticed we're somewhat relaxed about the rules.

Is the jury still deadlocked? The odds that natural climate variability can account for the magnitude of the temperature changes over the course of the satellite record are roughly five in a million, researchers report. - Science, July 19, 2018.

Got to love it. The largest landowner on the island is on welfare.

"I would love someone to provide some documentation for these supposed $2,000 per month per acre payments"

"Sounds like a wildly inaccurate rural legend to me."

I agree. Wont be the first time of inaccuracies posted by this individual.

And I don't care. Jump all over me if you like.

Of course, bashing the Shipmans on Punaweb is a popular local sport, so I don't expect to see any proof. Sounds like a wildly inaccurate rural legend to me. And before you jump all over me, I do agree that the tax bill on much of the property in question is ridiculously low.

Last time I looked at Shipman LTD's taxes, several years ago, they were paying $6,000/yr on 12,000 acres. I lightly mentioned this to Bill Walter (CEO of Shipman). Shortly after that a person could no longer easily look up someone taxes by name. The data went dark.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Easy to use the map feature on the county property tax site and click on the large parcels.

Well then, if it is of interest, look it up.

look it up

Picked one at random.

http://qpublic9.qpublic.net/hi_hawaii_display.php?county=hi_hawaii&KEY=160010150000

989 acres, about 1.5 miles of highway frontage. Assessed $1.85M, taxed $17342 = agout $1875/acre, taxed at about $17.50/acre/year.

Compare with random non-Shipman lot in Orchidland.

http://qpublic9.qpublic.net/hi_hawaii_display.php?county=hi_hawaii&KEY=160092300000

1.09 acres, 100' highway frontage, assessed $46800, taxed $437 (about 25x $17.50).

Who's subsizing whom?

$2,000/acre/month for not planting sugar cane sounds incredible. Can you give me the source for that information, I would like to verify it before I pass it on.

As to owning land around Mauna Loa Macadamia, checked several parcels - 160010350000 - for instance and they are owned by Royal Hawaiian Orchards. Checked on that and that is not a Shipman company.
