I think Mama Laundry's had the longest occupancy by far. Loved it. The space was smaller then, and I believe they were the first tenants there so the rent was much lower. About the only way to make ends meet in that place today would be alcohol sales all day and into the late evening, and that comes with another huge set of problems.

Or how long it will be vacant before the next one.

I fully agree. If yet another Asian food restaurant opens following this closure, that will be funny but not surprising.

If there were problems with Mama Laundry’s, I never noticed. It was a great place for the community to meet and unwind. The bar was busy all day, especially from pau hana to closing. Most of the Contractors working at the time called the place their “Office”. It was a great place to go and meet friends, dozer guys, builders, rock and concrete people. Many a house was planned there, mine included. In the days when nobody had a washer, we’d all do our wash and walk next door for a Margarita while we waited for it to dry, thus the nick name Mama Laundry’s. If a good food place with a bar opened there, it might just have a prayer of succeeding,

If they delivered off pavement to Orchidland, they would get some of our business, regardless of what kind of food it was.

Taiwan has high quality Chinese food. It's THE happening place for Chinese food in Asia, not China mainland. The food is off the charts, hundreds if not thousands of restaurants on that huge island that are so flavorful and intelligently prepared, healthy too! Even the little mom and pop cafe's are a treat.
Sometimes I really wish the Big Island would "get with it". I'm sure this sounds very rude but I'll say it anyway...the Chinese food here tastes and looks like slop compared to Taiwan.

I'm sure this sounds very rude but I'll say it anyway...the Chinese food here tastes and looks like slop compared to Taiwan.
Heck, it looks and tastes like slop compared to the Chinese food you get in a Hilo-size city on the mainland.

There’s a really good Chinese restaurant on Kauai called Garden Island Barbeque. If they can be successful there, there is no reason why we can’t have decent Chinese food here. And while I’m at it, fresh Dim Sum please.
