Roundup (cancer causing substance) cases underway
EW: enjoy, and good luck with it...

And here's another option - how about "Utopia Springs Eternal"....

We had several big discussions about this...

Interesting..

In a groundbreaking case against agricultural giant Monsanto, a jury has awarded $250 million in punitive damages and nearly $40 million in compensatory damages to a former school groundskeeper who said he got terminal cancer from the weedkiller Roundup.

Dewayne Johnson was seeking about $400 million in punitive damages and $39 million in compensatory damages from Monsanto, his attorney Timothy Litzenburg said.

Johnson's victory Friday could set a massive precedent for thousands of other cases against Monsanto.

Johnson was the first of hundreds of cancer patients to take the company to court over its popular weedkiller, Roundup...

I suppose the jury didn't agree with the many pundits here on PW who see it otherwise

Well, well.

I got a "TOLD YOU SO" ready for a bunch of people.

Edited to add about pundits:

I absolutely love that word you used Glinda, pundits.

pundit noun: 1. pandit 2. a learned man: teacher 3. one who gives opinions in an authoritative manner.

He testified that during his work, he had two accidents in which he was doused with the product. The first accident happened in 2012.
Two years later, in 2014, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

It sounds as if the product was not used as directed. Was he able to bring in other victims who developed cancer to testify, as it was a school?

Juries occasionally send innocent people to the electric chair.
Pundits on PW are usually deadlocked on every topic, so at least we can sleep at night with a clear conscience, knowing our wrong opinions are reversible.

Yeah well believe what you want to believe or keep denying whatever.

Just please, people, take extra precautions when using that ROUNDUP CRAP, CANCER CAUSING PRODUCT, or best yet, don't use it at all.

Edited to take question-mark out of title. Going back go original post...

They provided no evidence whatsoever and yet the jury was convinced.
I'll keep my faith in the system, no doubt this will be overturned on appeal.

Yup. Expected from you PW.

Quotes from the past;

@bananahead: spray on!!! Roundup is safe! and we all know no one will actually hand pick weeds from road edges or center dividers... and I love to see all the propaganda believing fear mongers squirm when the spray truck goes by...
aloha

PS Roundup, and the cheaper Honcho (both made by Monsanto) are easily the safest plant killers on the market.

Guess what bananahead, think again.

Where are the case studies based on hundreds of exposures? This guy's story qualifies as anecdotal evidence. As told, there is no basis for his winning the case as he could have been exposed to myriad other possible carcinogens in his life. I'm not even saying that glyphosate doesn't cause cancer. I'm saying that his getting cancer two years after exposure carries no weight.

There may have been much more to this story but the facts offered so far as supporting evidence don't support jack squat. I have used glyphosate longer than that and I don't have cancer so there you go....PROOF that glyphosate is harmless.

My brother worked for the sugar company. Never smoked, drank occasionally. Ran marathons and was a boxer for a brief period. As a sugar worker, he worked as a "knapsack sprayer." Basically, the was the "poison gang," those who walked the rows of young sugar cane and sprayed herbicides to control weeds. He worked on the poison gang for over 20 years. Three years ago, he went through a battle with non Hodgkin's lymphoma. Roundup was the preferred herbicide used during his 20 years on the poison gang. Three other members of the gang came down with cancers also, not quits sure if it was NHL. Can't say for certain what the causes were. But these guys worked with roundup for many years of their lives. There was no requirement to wear any safety gear other than a hardhat, safety glasses, and a piece of chicken wire that was fabricated to it over your hardhat in order to protect your face from the cane. That was about it. They all had healthy doses of roundup breaths. Again, can't say for certain of the cancer causes, but where there is smoke....

How is that Monsanto's fault?
