Roundup (cancer causing substance) cases underway
I don't understand how glyphosate can be harmful since it is an Organic compound, not only that it is also gluten free.

Whether or not they have been successful at bans or restrictions is a different story. We're talking millions of people here all over the world.

You must ask yourself why?! Why this huge move to get rid of Roundup?

Because there has been a well-funded, orchestrated effort to demonize GMO and conventional agriculture - and the vast majority of the public is scientifically illiterate and easily swayed by fearmongering and emotional appeals.

You claim to want perfectly safe pesticides that have been proven not to be toxic, no matter what the exposure is. There are none - because there are no compounds, natural nor man-made, that don't, under some conditions have a level of toxicity. You may have noticed the news article that a California judge determined that coffee needed to be labeled as carcinogenic. Bruce Ames, an internationally noted researcher on toxicity and toxicity testing pointed out that something like 17 (of the hundreds) of chemicals present in a cup of coffee had been tested for toxicity - and 11 of them came back positive... He also has stated that something like 99.99% of the toxic compounds we ingest on a regular basis are naturally occurring compounds in our food supply. So your insistence on not being exposed to any manmade chemical is nothing short of ridiculous...

Nope. Sorry Geochem this above is wrong. I DON't claim I want safe pesticides, I actually claim I want NO pesticides. Here, I'll pull up my quote from earlier in this conversation: Remember me posting this? NO? Well as I said I don't want pesticides.

@elysianwort "Nothing in it's place. Go back to the Pioneer style farming where you fed your family and anyone around in the neighborhood that wanted to trade farm produce for other goods and services.

It's such a backwards way of thinking, (in my opinion) expecting a chemical made in a lab far away will solve your short term problems in the garden. You have bugs or other gardening issues to get rid of? There's a ton of simple remedies that can be created in your kitchen with items you are okay eating. You have weeds? Pull them up. You have trees you don't want? Cut them down or burn it out. People got lazy. It's almost as if we started cheating and taking short cuts with chemicals and they turn out to bite back in the long run. I guess it enables some of us that aren't good at farming to be okay at it. Some things we already had right and we took too far with technology."

Oh yeah Geochem? I think that italicized post of yours above is ridiculous. I insist on limiting exposure to unnecessary and unproven chemicals. Also Geochem, did you just IGNORE Glinda's post? What was said here is so true. I also don't want to eat roundup like we as Americans are doing. Too much spraying our foods. I'll take that cup of coffee but no thanks to spraying roundup.

Here: Glinda's post again: Learn something.

@Glinda Analyzing samples from a prospective study, University of California San Diego School of Medicine researchers found that human exposure to glyphosate, a chemical widely found in weed killers, has increased approximately 500 percent since the introduction of genetically modified crops.

But to allow this, and to essentially create a complete farming industry on this type of technology, and introduce it into the environment and our bodies as intensely as we have without as much scrutiny as we do medicine is just crazy. We are ingesting both, why isn't the level of scrutiny before we are allowed to do so the same for each?

And those that say there's no proof blah blah blah.. well you know there are all sorts of modern diseases that we do not know why they have grown to be so prevalent. So unless you can say that Roundup doesn't cause any of them I think it is far from reasonable that we should be in essence forced to eat the stuff.

Oh yeah, that's right, someone said we have a choice. We don't have to eat it if we don't want, right? Sure, did you see how hard the genetically modified guys fought to keep the facts off of food labels? That alone was disgusting, and only leads one to wonder what it is they don't want is to know?

has increased approximately 500 percent since the introduction of

That might be true. Here are some other things that humans might have rapidly increased their exposure to after their introduction, which some people no doubt considered dangerous:

Burns after the discovery of fire
Cooked foods (imagine what the original advocates of the paleo diet were saying back in the day)
Tomatoes, potatoes (considered poisonous for some time)
Electricity
Radio waves
Cellular phone radiation
Vehicles, their speed and exhaust
etc

Some new introductions were found to be dangerous, some were not. If we outlawed all potentially new products until they were proven safe, we would have nothing new under the sun. How do you connect to the internet? Is it on a device some detractors would say is dangerous because of harmful radio waves?

Okay I got one more thing then I'm outside to enjoy this absolutely beautiful day. and I'll see y'all tomorrow. Enjoy and aloha!! [8D]

This topic is old and rehashed and had fizzled out several times. The reason it's back here now is because:

Monsanto, just a few days ago lost an historic court case with a plaintiff that claimed Roundup gave him cancer.
Monsanto is to pay him 280 MILLION DOLLARS for pain and suffering.

This is real folks. Lots more cases to come vs. Monsanto/Bayer

In other words I'm saying that this event is huge and many naysayers are acting like it's an unimportant event and it changes nothing about what they think of Roundup.

They act like there was no evidence and the court case is a fluke and will be overturned thru appeal. How do you form your opinion? Do you have access to all the evidence presented by the prosecution? Do you have access to the testimonies and everything said and presented? Why do you just stubbornly write it off?

Also this is just the first but how many more cases will it take? I predict there will be scores then hundreds, thousands, more to follow where sick people with freakishly similar illnesses through roundup exposure are suing Monsanto for Roundup chemical damage.

Then maybe some people will start to put down that spray bottle of roundup and just grit it out and actually get rid of weeds the way our pioneer ancestors did. Get yer lazy fat arse down there and just pull them out.

a use it until it is proven bad policy verses a don't use it until it is proven safe approach

Because money.

get rid of weeds the way our pioneer ancestors did. Get yer lazy fat arse down there and just pull them out.

When the herbicides and pesticides are banned, get ready for $5 tomatoes and $20 heads of lettuce.

Some new introductions were found to be dangerous, some were not....

If this is an attempt to suggest that any food additive (in this case Roundup) should be given less scrutiny than another, you fell far short of the mark.

This is simple. We, those who are questioning the safety of Roundup in our diet, want the same level of concern about this product as is applied to all other foods. What's the big deal? If you want to feed it to us we want to know that it is safe. We want clear and concise labeling and the actual right to make a choice. Not the perceived choice with hidden ingredients not listed, but real, educated choices. We want farmers that care about the welfare of those that eat the food they grow as much as they care about their profits. Is that really so hard to understand?

I think the Roundup argument is just like the whole republican/democrat thing. The republicans can't handle the truth so they yell and scream and make up all sorts of BS and gerrymander themselves into control all on make believe premises filled with hate and lies. Proponents of Big Ag are just the same. No disclosure, hiding of the facts, covering up the lies, is the only way they know how to hold onto, control, reality.

Like I said earlier, I don't know the truth about the safety or danger of Roundup. Just that in my own personal experience (own a farm) it is very hard on the body when any excessive exposure occurs. Spills etc. But to not use an abundance of caution, and address all concerns, before we proceed to essentially feed everyone the stuff without their consent, is just ridiculous. If doctors decided some drug should be in all the food we eat because of some perceived benefit, and there was no side effects, no detectable harm, folks would still be up in arms about it. Why is it ok to add something that actually has suspected side effects?

How are roundup ready food products different from food products sprayed with hundreds of other chemicals? I think they all require a similar testing process. If not, please let me know.

We want clear and concise labeling

Until that happens, if you avoid corn and soy products, unless labeled organic, you will automatically have a nearly entirely roundup ready free diet. Current Roundup Ready crops include soy, corn, canola, alfalfa, cotton, and sorghum.

Are you serious?

Do you really buy that line.. a line that somehow excludes all other ways Roundup is used?

How about as a desiccant? Roundup is now routinely sprayed directly on a host of non-GMO crops, including wheat, barley, oats, canola, flax, peas, lentils, soybeans, dry beans and sugar cane. But no worry, it is completely safe. So says HereOnThePrimalEdge. And god knows, he's never wrong, right?

Telling people to just go pull up weeds by hand is ridiculous. Do you grow ALL your own food? It’s almost impossible and also doesn’t make any economic sense. If you don’t want to use Roundup then that’s great but please don’t try to impose your decisions on others.

I saw no evidence presented at the trial to indicate Roundup is dangerous.
