Aloha Poke Protests
#11
It looks like the Aloha Not For Sale March in Chicago will be held tomorrow, Monday, so we’ll see where the movement goes. Meanwhile, a complete selection of Aloha Not For Sale shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and other gear is... available, offered I believe without irony... for sale, at their website:

At least here, the keg beer is brewed here. I won't buy the bottled stuff here as it is "imported".

The Aloha Nor For Sale Protest March was held in Chicago today. No word on how many attended, perhaps 2-4 dozen based on photos (160,000 signed the online petition).

OHA streamed the protest live on their website.

Another march is planned Wednesday.

"the keg beer is brewed here"

Some of it is. It's true that they don't have a bottling facility on the islands, so 100% of their bottled beer is mainland, but not all the kegged beer sold here is made here.

When we were in Kona a few weeks ago we saw a sign at Kona brewery. Seems they are expanding and will be brewing and packaging more beer in Kona.

"The location, which is just down the street from the original Kona Brewery & Pub, will be the future home of Kona’s new 30,000-square-foot brewery and canning operation..."

"In addition to increasing its draft production, the new brewery’s canning operation will enable Kona to expand its package offerings in the Islands. Currently, Kona Longboard Island Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale are the only Kona Brewing beers sold in cans, and the new canning operation will enable Kona to make more of its innovative and seasonal beers available in this increasingly popular packaging option."

Yes, they have been scrambling ever since the lawsuits:

https://sites.law.berkeley.edu/thenetwor...-labeling/

(you get the point)

Sometimes it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

I noticed that Maui Brewing took the high road many years ago and instead of suing them for blatant mislabeling just dropped a few truth bombs on some public forums and watched Kona quietly scramble as they added disclaimers to their labels and web site. Now they are taking that one step further and copying Maui Brewing's business plan. Class act, but what else do you expect from Budweiser?
