2018 Hurricane Season
"These exaggerations, especially our mountains destroying storms, are not that widely held."

Have you read this thread? I've heard that from numerous people, they figure there must be a reason we've mostly escaped.
I think it's because we're just a speck in the big Pacific. Kauai is just unlucky.

Can't we for once stop bickering, and just give local storm/flooding update info,

Hikatz - all the links you need to know about have already been posted. I'm not sure what else you want. As for bickering, well when one or two people start making personal attacks on others then maybe you should ask those posting the insults to stop. For instance, I think MarkD and myself are having a rather civil discussion which is relevant to this thread and certainly doesn't count as bickering, so why include everyone in your post?

Disagreement and discussion are healthy, personal attacks aren't, especially when they are accompanied by data that completely contradicts what they say.

I'm not going to name names, but if the shoe fits wear it... Some people on this forum should find a hobby that occupies more of their time. There's no need to comment in every topic on Punaweb or constantly post to prove how your expertise is superior to someone else's. The constant back and forth about who is smarter than whom, whose opinion is more valuable than whose, and who has more cause for indignation because of something someone else said about them or to them -- it's all so petty!

The latest forecast has Lane tracking north and a little closer to the Big Island than the previous forecast, but not close enough to have damaging winds in Puna. Wind shear is the dominant factor right now regarding its strength and when it weakens enough the trade winds should push it westwards. Right now it is still a very powerful Category 4 hurricane.

Expect a lot of rain for the next couple of days as the storm will drag up a lot of moisture from the tropics.

Found this on Facebook :

"Don't panic! Get ready. They want to turn Hawaii into the next Puerto Rico. They want to move FEMA into Hawaii. DON'T GO TO FEMA OR WALMART IN A DISASTER! DO NOT DO IT!"

Guy should follow his own advice.

KeaauRich - I think someone recently said truth isn't truth. I see nothing in your post that is actually true. Maybe that's where you are trying to take this, or not. Perhaps you could clarify?

I think most people deserve being told things that are accurate and as truthful as they can be, including those that post here. Backing up claims with evidence seems to be a good way to go. Posting insults and claims that aren't true is not a good way to go. Perhaps you have a different opinion.

Puna is a no wind zone right now... Kona doesn't look bad either, but they must be getting dumped on to have landslides.
